I read an interview Steve J did with the Wall Street Journal and there have been some interesting responses to the questions they asked. One was the decision to go with EDGE instead of a 3G radio and Jobs replied that the 3G radios are bulkier and require more power to use. Apparently the ATT EDGE around the country got a big boost as far as bandwidth capacity and throughput because users have been claiming thier EDGE download speeds have doubled and trippled compared to just 2 weeks ago. I have no doubt in my mind that this is the direct result of the iPhone launch. In any event, I am curious to see how iDay pans out, etc…
Steve Jobs said the EDGE was slow in a recent report. He said that is hwy the iphone has wifi in it.
Kinda shitty cover but at least they admitted EDGE = SHIT
With the AT&T/Cingular merger, along with the huge boost they’re probably going to get because of the iPhone, I doubt EDGE will be crappy for long, if it even is now.

you’re an idiot, edge is a dead, out-dated technology, it is being fazed out, so it will be crappy for a long time, HSDPA>>>>Edge

:picard:
#1, GPRS is even older, thats the technology that EDGE replaced
#2 even in the areas where HSDPA has been deployed, EDGE still got bumped up, 400k suits the needs of a lot of users
Yes apps like YouTube that iPhone is promoting on its phone and other 3rd party web based apps run shitty on EDGE but another thing that you guys are missing is that the network can be 100MBps but it all depends on how fast your phone can render the web page.
Most cell phones render pages slower and you wont notice it browsing the web on 90% of phones out there.

:word:
My sidekick2 and sidekick3 both load pages somewhat quickly for a phone, but as soon as rendering comes around that’s where most the time is spent. My SK2 is a GPRS, and my SK3 is EDGE, and I can’t tell the difference until rendering comes around, then the 3 is faster (better cpu/memory).
GPRS /= EDGE sometimes.

You’re a jackass, GPRS is hardly 56k lol, may burst up to 112k if you’re lucky
Real world, it’s about as slow as a badly connected 56k line.
BlackBerry has nothing to worry about with this iPhone
Maybe some businesses waited to get iPhones for their employees and then found out its a poor replacement.
I’m not sure who thought the iPhone was a replacement for a Blackberry. Maybe idiots. Watching the commercials even Apple isn’t suggesting that.
To put it another way, I have no interest what so ever in a Blackberry, but I’m interested in the iPhone. One is for work, one is for fun. I don’t want to work on the go. I don’t want work invading “my time”.
So dmoffitt and I camped out from 5:30am until the 6pm launch. It was a blast. A ton of friends came by to keep us company, and the people around us were mad cool. We were second and fourth in line and I got the last of 5 available 8 gig models (bought it for a friend who couldn’t be there, since I had already planned to be there anyway).
