The only real problem with running it without the side panel is it will accumulate dust faster, but get more airflow. If you can find the model of the case maybe you can visit the manufactures site and request a new one.
Same one I have. Does they one they give you have case fan holes?
<EDIT>
I also put filters on the front and side of the case to reduce dust. They are your standard filters for heat registers, that you can pick up at Home Depot or Lowes.
^ Exactly. It isn’t supposed to look pretty it keeps the dust out though…You can clearly see how dirty it is. I’ll take an ugly dust filter over clogged/overheating components any day.
I would be concerned that without the side panel the airflow won’t be directed properly. A case is designed to pull air in one end, run it over the components, the expell it at the other end. Without the side panel it’s easy for the same hot air to just keep going in a circle.
It’s not a “fancy” case IMO. The LEDs come standard on the case and really don’t effect my case buying. I bought this because it’s one of the best all around cases, has a huge 200mm fan on top, 2 fans on the front and another in back. I will most likely but the Obsidian 800D in a couple months. With the GTX 285, I need more room and better cable management.
