Sigh. Squids, another reminder...

eh… You guys are throwing “squid” around like it is a fucking picard.

Riding comfortably is just as important as wearing a special jacket. Sorry… there was so much sweat dripping down my face into my eyes I didn’t see the buick rapidly approaching that stop sign…

Or I was so sweaty in my jacket that my arm got stuck in the elbow pad and I was unable to react quickly enough to the deer crossing in front of me. Yay… at least I was wearing my jacket… would have been nice to just not be stuck in the sleeve.

I wear my jacket on occasion, but not daily. I wear my seatbelt even when I’m in the back seat. Not wearing a jacket doesn’t make someone a squid. Maybe less caring about their own protection, but a squid is someone who puts others’ lives in danger.

I finally bought a DOT helmet… my old helmet was styrofoam painted black. it was like an eggshell, but less protective.

And those jackets would look totally gay on a real bike :stuck_out_tongue:

Srsly.
A squid is someone WHO CAN’T RIDE.

I know plenty of pro motocross riders who wear nothing but a helmet, jersey, pants, boots when there is SO many other safety products out there…and no one calls them squids.
But then again, that is apples and oranges…but still. A squid is someone who has no skill on a bike… which /= what they wear

lol. if i were you, i wouldn’t really be promoting that whole “darwinism” thing.

it’s all what you’re doing in my opinion. if i’m going to tear through the gears and do dumb shit, i’ll put a jacket on. when me and eviljay rode down the street to starbucks, berts, and duffs for a casual ride today, we both rocked a tshirt, gloves, and helmet.

as for textile vs. leather, i did a lot of research. everything i read said that textile works really well under 100 mph once in a crash. leather works really well multiple times. i’m looking for it to work real well once, so i went with textile.

EDIT:

 i thought the same thing.

textile vs leather… my research provided the same information as well. I went textile which included hefty elbow, shoulder and spine pads. Not to mention plenty of zipper vents. If it saves my skin for that 1 crash, that’s plenty for me…
I was out today in jeans + this jacket and as long as i was going above 15mph, i was not sweating and remained very comfortable.
I’ll pretty much always wear it if i’m going anywhere, since i live too far away from anything to justify a “short jacketless trip”.

word. to each their own. 99% of the time, i’m in my jacket. i’ve literally ridden twice without it. i felt the need to chime in because i haven’t seen a post by pureXTC yet that i agreed with.

I dont do stupid shit in a vehicle I raced circle track for 7 years.
I’m more than capable of handling a car.
I don’t speed, and Im over observent, plus from racing I’ve learned what situations might unfold from certain other drivers actions.
Stuff the normal guy dosent notice.

But Until they ban women and or anyone under 20 from driving alone.
Noone is safe from a 16 yr old girl with a cig and a cell phone, blowing thru a redlight at 50 and taking someone out.

okay. so i get the fact that riding like an asshat and putting yourself and others in danger is stupid. but i really dont get the point of flaming on people for what they wear. i think people just have nothing better to do then rag on people for everything.

today i went riding for several hours in jeans and a t-shirt. why in the world does that matter to anyone else?

someone please explain this concept.

i think all these asshat terms people abuse are so fucking gay.

Squid being one of them. if someone is splitting traffic and being obscene on the road thats one thing but what someone chooses to wear is their own problem.

i saw a dude today on a blue sport bike in h town wearing b-ball shorts and no shirt.

WAT. siiiiqqqqqq tribal bro, i guess he was looking for a way to get rid of it other than lazers

I don’t care what kinda tats you have. if yousz a good rider…youz a good rider. I kant stnad the kids who are all talk and u take them in the twistez in the southtowns (springvile) and they can’t keepot up.
Man, i gots my knee down like six inches from the pavement. thats what i calll real skill… i just got to man up and biuy some pads so i can drag a knee.

iz i s drunk too if u cant tell

You sound like the smart ass to me, not him. Maybe you should keep your comments to yourself instead of opening your mouth where your opinions arent needed. He wasn’t bothering you, he’s out enjoying his bike with his gf and you feel the need to play tough guy, good job.

Right on Jack! Except the real bike part  jk

There are a lot of new riders out this year because of gas prices. I think a lot of them share the same beliefs as many of you regarding wearing t shirts as long as you aren’t doing stupid shit. Just remember that it only takes 1 mistake by a cager for you to spend a week in intensive care while the skin from the inside of your thigh repairs the lost skin over the rest of your body. Sure you may have a broke bone or two, but you would be discharged within hours for a couple broken bones.

Wait 2 years, and I bet the majority of you that don’t wear a jacket all of the time will have a change of heart. You will probably either know some one or personally experience what it feels like to pick asphalt pebbles out of your buddies arms, back, hands, and knees.

i need some sort of riding pants. I always wear a leather jacket and gloves, but usually don’t have anything other than jeans on… and it’s usually STRETCH DENIM, I can’t imagine that will hold up well…

I don’t want to wear something silly like chaps, tho.

Wasn’t there a thread of pictures of you driving a bike in a suit jacket and dress pants?

I had full leathers on under the suit.

hhaa, but yeah… there was that one time…

Staying out of this thread. Just going to watch and see where this one goes…

I’ve just skimmed this thread a bit and saw that some one mentioned it only takes one cage… and that is the 100% truth. My dad was out riding, doing nothing wrong and got hit on the side by a cage who ran a light. Things happen, be prepared instead of overconfident.

I saw some squid a day or two ago rip up a hill around 45-50, the hill being a 30mph. Blind corners everywhere. Caught up to him because he got caught behind a truck. He had a jacket on, but was wearing shorts. Makes no sense to me… then he blew by the truck on a double solid line after tailgating the guy for half a mile.

No wonder sport bike riders have a bad name…

real men ride mile wheelies down rt 5 ass naked during rush hour.

p.s. bunch of idiots in this thread
