I have to say there is something to be said for someone who takes the time to make their car a sleeper. Even as simple as painting an intercooler black all the way to that Nova. That stuff is amazing and it takes as much time to do that as it would to make the car spotless.
I can respect it from either side, but there is something to be said when you beat someone in a ratty old piece of shit car and all they can do is shake their head.
Give me a twisty road (and three dollar gas) and I’ll take a stock 1989 CRX over a stock Superbee every time. And I love sleepers. I’d love to get a 318i four door, wedge an LS1 into it, and try to keep the exhaust as muffled as possible to maintain the appearance of a base model Bimmer.
well now while I do agree that he does like homo vehicles, I have to disagree with you too. Not everyone on here has the money/time to own as many cars as you do, or the ability to put one down for a frame off resto. Most people on here only require a car that goes fast. Who gives a shit what it looks like. Now I will always keep my stuff respectable ie no rust, as few dents as possible but I could care less if the car is in primer if it runs like hell. I think thats where you and a lot of other people differ, If I was presented with a car that is show perfect and a car in primer that runs like hell, Im taking the fast car, but Im not a car show king like you. My stuff doesn’t have to sit on chrome.
You beat me to the punch. This car looks/sounds like it will run high 12s or low 13s…and runs 9s. I posted pics in another thread a few months ago.
I’m all about something non-descript, but being fast as hell. I don’t care for 4 drs or station wagons, though. It still has to be a nice car/truck. A piece of poop will always be a piece of poop.
i think its different when you like the cars i do… i 'd rather have a nice looking g-body than a fast piece of junk… but i guess when you like econo box rice its better to be fast so no one can see its u driving it.
i’m not rich by any means. the buick, road runner…those are cars i have access to but aren’t mine. the hurst and the ss are mine… i bet i make less than some people that work at walmart. but i guess what you do with ur car its what compliments are you fisihing for… “wow ur car is quik” or “man your looks sweet”
i do like sleepers, and i get a kick out of seeing a car that looks somewhat slow run very fast times…
but if its a piece of shit then thats what it is… it may be fast but who cares. I appreciate the effort but i’m a well rounded kind of car guy. i want it all. the car has to be quick, handle good, and look good. its the whole car that makes it a car and everything must be done in my eyes, from tires to brakes to interior to motor.
I have always loved sleepers…the proverbial “wolf in sheeps clothing”. I loved my 69 Torino 428CJ. Once i removed the snake emblems, and the “428” emblems from the hood scoop, it looked like every other Torino fastback, right down to the steelies and hubcaps. Made sure the exhaust was nice and quiet. That car ran high 12’s and that was VERY quick for a street car in 1974. Sleepers can be a lot of fun
