Sleeping issues

I have some server fans I will sell you cheap. supply a solid 12 volts to it and it will provide all the noise you could hope for. Its small size will be unobtrusive so you don’t have to give up much space to use it.

This shit works…

I have to sleep with a fan on me until it gets really cold out, and then it takes me a while to transition into not needing the noise. I turn it on and point it away from me. It’s generally quiet near my house too, but the dead silence takes getting used to again.

Have a kid. The first 3 months I was so sleep deprived that I was out within 10 seconds of my head hitting the pillow, any time I was lucky enough for it to hit the pillow. My cortisol was so sky high my short term memory went to shit. Fun times.

Fuck drugs for sleeping. They’re terrible. Sure you go to sleep, but you wake up feeling like crap so you grab stimulants and wind up “tired and wired” all day, then can’t sleep at night, and need more drugs. Your hormones go further to shit. Then you just spiral downward from there.

Sounds like you need a white noise machine. From there try some supplements like melatonin (though it really doesn’t do that much) and magnesium (look for Natural Calm.) Ditch the TV and internet an hour before bed, black out your room, take a cold shower if you’re man enough or just lie on top of the sheets for a while to drop your body temperature.

I wonder if thats what wrong with my memory… i feel like I don’t even remember why I argue with my girlfriend about something she did lmao… oh benadryl really knockes me out

It’s my understanding that taking a hot shower will help, not cold. The idea is that if you raise your core temperature using hot water, your body will slow down because it doesn’t need to generate heat. The cooling off process is what makes you tired. Needing to warm up wakes you up. I don’t know about anyone else, but I can’t sleep when I’m actually cold. (the room has to be cold, but I’m covered in blankets…)

My memory has gone to absolute shit with sleep problems and I hate it. It’s to the point where I forget words, hesitate when talking, lose shit. It’s awful.

Counting sheep works for me. Seriously.

Had to, one of my favs.

I normally get 6-7 hours of sleep… My morning is tough, but I get up and grab a cup of coffee and will be alright. Although as tired as I will be during the work day, I’ll come home and hit the gym. Then after that I’m wide awake and can’t easily get to bed at night. Even though I’ve been hitting it hard all day, I should be exhausted right? If I have a couple beers I’m normally okay. Otherwise I’ll find myself tossing and turning all night… Back, stomach, side, other side, back to back. I think the only true thing that got me to sleep was when I had a gf.

I sleep with the tv on. I use to use the sleep timer, now I’m like fuck it. i just let it run.

karter, you fuck your TV to get to sleep? wierd

Nobody has suggested masturbation yet?

No wonder these guys can’t sleep.

I have to agree with you 100% on the last thing you mention. watching TV or surfing the web right before bed keeps my mind wound up and I get wrestles and cant sleep. personally I don’t like cold showers unless I have been working in the heat all day. cooling you body off to go to sleep really does work though.

pills are never good for anything. build up a dependence or reliance on them is very easy especially on something like sleep. I try not to take anything personally… sex works though well, puts me right out.

The big one that is difficult for me to not do is to only drink water for the last 3 or 4 hours at night. I drink a LOT of soda so that is always difficult for me.

yup, on periods.

That’s what I expected too.

To say all sleeping pills are bad is not always the case. There are medications that are mainly prescribed for other issues such as depression and anxiety that also work as a sleeping aid. Obviously these medications are not something the average person will take or even want to take for an issue like this.

Masturbation = stupidest thing i ever heard…People still do that?

Been using a fan the last few nights turned towards the wall, seems to be helping. I think the problem is i work 830-9 and rock out to some tunes on the way home then go home and try to get whatever i need done and i am just waking up around the time i should be going to sleep.

Alright here’s what you do. This is gonna sound like some new-age hippie shit that I’m sure someone will try to flame me for, but I’m telling you, this works.

It requires some pretty good concentration. Lay on your bed and shut your eyes. Become consciously aware of every part of your body. Think about each of your feet, your legs, arms, neck, etc. Think about them and become aware of each thing, how it’s positioned, and how it feels.

Concentrate on one at a time and make the conscious decision to let each one go limp, one at a time. Start with your feet and work up all the way to your neck and head. Your body will become so relaxed you’ll be out in no time.

I’ve done this and I have told other people about it. Everyone says the same thing - you wake up in the morning and the last thing you remember is letting your shoulders/neck/whatever go limp.

Yep, I think that’s fundamentally meditation. Becoming intensely aware of the present moment makes you let go of all the day’s baggage and tomorrow’s worries that are keeping you up.
