i did it for a few years in a body shop. i know how, i tried, and breathing nasty shit and having rainbow boogers wasnt all that great.
you can do it yourself and say “look what i did… it was my first time”
or
take it to nick and his old man (who has been doing this for like 20 something years) and say “check out my hatch… it looks almost as good as Zer0DazE’s old hatch”
the insurance company is going to cut you a check, and i know places that you can score aftermarket oem parts cheap (they arent local, but cheap). see how much nick will want to paint the whole car. it doesnt hurt to ask… does it?
Your opinion has been duely noted. And even though I never asked you for it, you came right out and told me what I should do, because you obviously know more about my situation than I do. Boy, am I lucky to know someone like you. I nevered realized how much I really want my car to be a show queen and be perfect in every way. I also didn’t know how a 10 year old civic with 180K+ miles on needs a professional paint job and body work in order to retain it’s almost non-existant value. Lastly, I didn’t know that all this pro body work would make my car that much faster for autox.

I can buy a new hatch for $3k. Or I can do the work myself just to make the car pass tech inspection. I don’t really car how good the car looks…a mint civic has never gotten anyone laid by anything other than a hood rat.
