Smartphones comparison side by side

Well, that is one of the ways to decrease power consumption and in turn can have a smaller battery and a slimmer form factor as with the iPhone, not to mention lower production cost. By increasing the display size from 320x480 to let say 480x640, the pixel count will be doubled. In order to retain the same (or close to the same) power consumption, either decrease the actual screen size, like the My Touch Pro; or with better display technology like the AM-OLED on the Nexus.

The power consumption cant be much different, I would think the area of the screen, not the # of pixels, would effect battery life more. And smaller the screen size should be cheaper (less materials), unless we are talking about some crazy high resolution.

what about the HTC Hero or Touch Pro II?

I doubt this will ever come to light as the Nexus one and the Droid may be the highest performers in the category but there are over 5 other Android based phones already on the market.

Moment, Cliq, myTouch 3g, G1, Hero

off the top of my head…prolly a couple more

My next phone is going to be a HTC Android :slight_smile:

what they didnt show is the ability to hack the phones. jailbreak the iphone and you can get installous and get any app from apple’s app store for free. and it makes it more personalized too.
$0.02

droid ftw
played with my buddy’s last night at jiminy after getting my ticked yanked :lol
def getting one come february when im up for an upgrade

Or ‘homebrew’ the Pre. Themes, patches, tweaks, and missing functions (such as virtual keyboard, video recording, etc).

The droid is nice, but it’s so fricken heavy.

Its all personal preference, I like the heft of it.

Yes. They all have their pro’s and con’s like I’ve said many times. Some con’s are pro’s for others, etc.

Windows Mobile phone are kinda like blackberrys, business oriented. Android isn’t there yet.

Just thought I’d pass this along:

CES Announcement from Palm regarding Palm Pre, Palm Pixi, and expansion to the Verizon carrier:

* Video Recording - Due in February

Soon you will be able to record, edit, and share videos straight off your webOS phone. That’s right, even editing. Navigate the through the timeline, select the thumbnails you want to trim, and voila, shorter video. From there you can upload it straight to Facebook, YouTube, email or MMS. And these uploads happen in the background. The video recorder update will be available to all webOS users in February.

* Gaming - Need for Speed, Sims3, etc… NOW!

 * Need for Speed Undercover (EA Mobile)
 * The Sims 3 (EA Mobile)
 * MONOPOLY (EA Mobile)
 * Asphalt 5: Elite Racing (Gameloft)
 * Let’s Golf! (Gameloft)
 * Glyder 2 (Glu Mobile)
 * X-Plane (Laminar Research)
 * EA Mobile’s Tetris
 * Sudoku
 * SCRABBLE
 * The Oregon Trail
 * Brain Challenge.

* Developer Access is public now

“Plug-in Development Kit,” or PDK. This allows native apps to hook into webOS and interact with the system, so that you can use stuff like the accelerometer and zooming out to card view pauses the game.

VERIZON EXCLUSIVE

-----* Pixi Plus - WiFi

* FLASH 10.1 - Beta Available Soon.

*WEBOS 1.4.0 - Due in February

Any I forgot, let me know and I will add them.

i am happy with my new sammy Jack. got that shiz for free since my gf lost her phone and she had to upgrade so i figured why not.

While i was taking a shit at work, I just found out how to connect to wifi here and thankfully remembered the WEP key for the lab so… I am hooked up and surfin porn in the shitter here on the off the network RR connection! WOOT

Illya give up man, the pre is a huge flop…

The new Palm pre or whatever the fuck it is looks korrible, my daughters play toy phone from cumberland farms looks more sopheisticated than that POS…

Palm is a dieing name now a days…

Unless they come out with something huge sometime soon their going to stay that way.

Yeah the Palm Pre seems dumpy as fuck with shitty/no apps.

IMO it shouldn’t even be compared to the iPhone & the Droid/Nexus because those phones blow the Pre out of the water.

I’m just passing along info as that phone is going to Verizon soon and some people may look into it.

And WebOS is actually really good and only getting better with the access that they were just given (the devs). While the Pre itself may not be great, and I’m not saying it is anymore (the Droid is better I admit)…WebOS IS not dumpy and is a very good platform. Definitely better than the iPhone platform.

Also, there is over 1,000 apps now, not 258. Given the time that WebOS has been out compared to Android and Apple, that’s not too bad.

Droid > N1/Pre > iPhone

So all these ‘Droid’ phones are all made by Motorola or what?

No. Nexus-One is made by Google. The Droid is made by Motorola.

So what’s the deal with having ‘droid’ in the name from various manufactors?
