finally got my car back together after an sr swap and i turned my battery on with the key in accessory and smoke started comming from the rear of the car. i saw it from the driver side rear fender. i immediately turned of the battery and then looked around. only thing i noticed was it looked like the gromet on the fuel pump cover had melted a bit. so i checked the fuel pump wiring but it all looks good. also my battery is in the trunk. not sure if it could be a bad ground or not. anyone have any ideas? thanks
anyone? i still dont know whats wrong. i have checked all my wiring over and over. the smoke only comes from under the driver side rear fender. and when the key is in the start position. i was told there must be a live connected to a ground somewhere but i dont know what it could be.
ok i figured out where it was coming from. my ebrake cable was melting. which should mean a bad ground. so i said fuck it and bought more cable and ran it from the battery back to the front and grounded it on the block. then i turned the power on and i heard a loud pop. thought fuck i blew something. so i checked fuses and everything seems ok. everything has power but the car wont crank. i need to get the car home so i began towing it and as soon as the car started rolling a clicking sound came from the fuse labelled “EGI”. i pulled it, and tried towing again. the lights began clicking on and off with the speed of the car. got it home shut everything off. now what?
i am guessing you just blew the something on your car. ummm there must be a short somewhere…fuel pump melting? ebrake cable melting? sounds scary.
it could also mean you don’t have enough cable to go from battery to the front.
just my guess
i checked the fuel pump wiring it was fine. the only thing melting was the ebrake cable. im using 4 gauge wire for my positive and 3 gauge for the negative so im sure the wire is enough. and im now grounding it in the stock location. so i dont know what else to do.
What do you mean by your e-brake cable was melting?
the plastic around the cable melted off. when i touched the cable it was burning hot.
^^^ wow, defenatly not prime.
Shit, I wish I had the time to come up there and check it out.
Possibly Thursday night, this looks like an issue for jantos can only solve…
haha. if you could come take a look i’d really appreciate it. ill buy you a case of beer if you can fix it.
ok i fixed it guys. it wasnt cranking because my starter plug fell off. the electrical issues were a bad battery ground and alternator ground. the car finally ran. wouldnt idle though so i guess thats the next thing. oh and sr with no exhaust sounds badass.
