Clean bob nice work keep it up!
I’m no guru when it comes to electrical things, but this really isn’t that bad. It looks much worse! As long as you label your connectors and clipped wires to stay organized, it should go pretty smoothly. I’m really excited to see what it’ll look like in the end, just wish I had the time and resources to pull the motor and paint the bay.
Thanks man. Btw, its far off, but we’ll be doing a small spec meet when Glen/Omar come to town in August. Probably gonna hit up lancaster and get food/beer on a couple occasions. http://www.tsvb.net/showthread.php?9538-Western-New-York-meet-August-2011
this. really not too bad as long as you take your time with it.
Looks awesome!
a lot more to go. the block is mostly clean besides a few tight areas that im gonna have to buy special brushes for.
a long list of oem parts and gaskets are supposed to arrive wednesday, excited for it.
makes me nervous not having heat, just in case your engine were to ever overheat, it can buy you time to get somewhere, i know it did for me when i was on the thru way 20 miles from my hosue and a giant fucking rock went through my radiator
If a rock goes through your radiator, then you lose coolant. Without coolant, your heater wont’ work, so how did that help you at all?
Who said I wont have heat? Im leaving the heater core in, just ditching the a/c.
Got some OEM gaskets and parts in the mail today.
I want to try and get this done for the Spring BBQ, but the more I look around the garage, the more I realize it just isn’t gonna happen.
The tranny is pretty much all clean except some spots on the backside.

The block is going to take a lot more work. Less accessible and much more carbon buildup.
went to the shop today to do some grinding/sanding/blasting. was fun.
rad brackets:
heater line. I shaved two brackets off, which previously held o2 sensor connectors. and also shaved off and had someone at the shop reweld a plug which used to run coolant through the inlet of the IM (stupid nissan). not perfect, but I’m satisfied:
alternator bracket, shaved two knobs off the top:
hella picture dump
cleaned the block. was a bitch, and it’s still not how i’d like it. if/when i ever build the motor ill have to get it all hot tanked to look nice. there’s still bits of dirt in the corners and in the deep crevices. i doubt anyone will ever see it, but it still bothers me.
anyways, pics

also cleaned up this area:
and this area:
and some other shots of the transmission:
Love the attention to detail
It was probably dirtier from the dealership when you bought it than it is now
Prime and rattle can it high heat aluminum if you want it to look super brand new.
Thanks guys, I appreciate it. Probably won’t paint the block, I hope to eventually build it, so I’ll just hot tank it and make it nice when the time comes.
Little stuff I did today
Modded some brushes so I can get better access with them. Made a huge difference. A couple minutes of work probably saved me more than a couple hours:
Cleaned out the clutch res, it was way nasty in there:
Just did a quick clean on the slave:
Cleaned up the tensioner, parts like this is where the cut down brushes helped a bunch:
(on right)
Looking good.
Thanks, man.

Didn’t get much done today, gave some much needed attention to the mk3 instead.
Got the little rust spots off a couple pulleys though:
Also touched up the alternator bracket, I wasn’t happy with it. But now looking at these pictures, I’m still not. The camera shows me things I can’t see in real life lol
Obviously this isn’t going to make the bbq, so I’ll be driving the black raked jetta with winter tires. See ya there.
in the one picture is the block cracked? something looked cracked and sealant was used to fix it??? i was curious if the chemicals made it crack
