SnowIceWindpocalypse Jan 2014

Guess I should have parked in the garage tonight instead of the carport…

see you in game

Work called, I’m sleeping in tomorrow. Beer time!

I also just got the no school text.
My neighboring farm wants me to ride over for beers. Seeing he works at a different school that’s closed. I’m not going outside

town of hamburg driving ban.

Its not worth it on the Island to snowmobile. When we get even a trace of snow everyone and their mother goes out and the trails get ruined.

So my drive from Tonawanda to Elmarillacaster went like this:

  • Top of the 190, good visibility 1 mile plus, snow pavement mix, passing people 50+ mph, because I am a tool.
  • Middle to bottom of the 190, poor visibility 1/4 mile, with gusts bring it down to 200 feet, passing people 40 mph, because I am a tool.
  • 90, poor visibility, heavy traffic, couldn’t get by anyone. But, they are all pussies.
  • 400 on ramp, I own this shit, pass a dude on the left, then one on the right, then another on the left, and then a Navigator cuts me off. Bad visibility, gusts bring it to 50 feet.
  • 400 screw these fools with the four ways going, pass 'em all. Visibility 50 feet, but no traffic. I am so awesome. Oh, wait, well, maybe this is the lane, visibility 20 feet, just enough for me to avoid hitting the Union “EXIT” sign as I jump a small snow pile at the crotch of the “Y”. O.K., I’ll slow down a little. Light icing of the windshield. Going 20 mph, this is the right lane, I can make out the edge of the road. I mean this is the left lane, I can make out the shadow of the median. That’s a road sign, I shouldn’t be driving straight at that, I’m about 20* off. Slow it down to 15 mph, visibility 5 feet, gust taking it down to 0. Can barely make out other tracks. Had zero visual references. Gusts creating a vertigo effect. Maybe I should just ride rumble strips, that’s the right rumble turn left, that’s the right rumble turn left, that’s the right rumble turn left, shit! that was the left rumble turn right. Once in a while I could follow a guardrail, by the time I got to Transit the windshield was iced over, I had my head out the window following the median, slow enough to hear the crunching of the snow, no cars visible anywhere.
  • Transit, cars, but still no visibility, skip going to the grocery store, pull over on Bullis and clean my windshield. More 15 mph guessing game all the way home trying to follow mailboxes on the right.

Little late to the party but :oj: surprised I got a call tonight considering I’m out near LeRoy.

Work called me off, time to get the moon boots out!

You’re one of those people who rocket by everyone on the ragged edge who I beep to as I drive by them in the ditch a mile down the road.

driving ban in east aurora and eden too.

I can’t remember the last time my office closed due to weather. Honestly, I can remember. We’re closed tomorrow. It must be snowing fireballs and is -500° outside. I am afraid to even open my blinds to see what it looks like out there, for fear my soul will be sucked out of my eye sockets.

I’m half tempted to go driving around the city, lol.

+1 in a few

Nothing better than taking the quad out on city streets

I just watched half of my clients listed on the closings on the news

Man it’s cold out

Went to French road and back to EA. ZERO visibility at times, insane.

Semi truck literally forced me off the road at Knox Farm State park, thank God I was driving the Ferd Fteenthousand. I ran over something when I went off road, it sounded and felt bad but the Ferd seemed to handle it.

This storm sucks I just drove from Detroit to St Louis and it was a cluster fuck

Not that bad here yet, cold and windy but nothing insane. I just drove about 20-30 minutes each way and the only crazy shit was 2 people walking, 1 with only a hoodie on. It’s nice when there’s no cars on the road, I do what I want!

Glad you got in safe LZ. Must have been a fun drive/journey.

West Seneca is a Shit Show…Travel Bans up. There are cars abandoned on Seneca Street. Lackawanna is in a State of Emergency. Of all days for my sump to break…$19 and a trip to SS and it is back up and running. :stuck_out_tongue:

There’s not all that much snow… but there’s literally zero tire tracks on some of the main streets of Hamburg. Really weird.
