Yikes. Sorry to see that happen…
damn thats SUCKS man…sorry to hear
Mike, that sucks bad. You may want to blame India for this. Maybe you can expense this for work? :stick:
Gotta go bigger, now
I think so…
K&N X-treme air cleaner sits on a carb stud with a nut & washer to secure it.
The washer is no longer there on the stud…I’m guessing it stuck to the rubber underside of the X-treme lid and then fell off into the carb as I removed the air cleaner assembly. I didn’t hear it fall and I didn’t notice it was missing when I went to re-install the air cleaner.
WTF…if it wasn’t for bad luck, I wouldn’t have any luck at all…
I’m thinking of de-stroking it down to a 383, AFR’s, and a larger cam.
When I talked to T&L for their advice, they told me I should have never sprayed that motor at all because, since it was a 408 with a 4" stroke and 6" rod, the pistons are quite small and thin and not really suitable for nitrous use. Thus, the de-stroking idea…dropping back to a 3.75" stroke and a 5.7" rod should make for a much stronger piston.
Block is at B&R right now…if it needs bored out I should know by tomorrow…if I have to go .040 or .060 over then I will have to wait a couple weeks for the kit…if it can stay at .030 then Jegs has 'em in stock and I can get one next day.
Anyone have any thoughts on heads? If I have to buy new heads anyway, is there any reason to use anything else but AFR 195 Eliminator’s?
Current cam: 230/244 .510/.540 @ 112
Cams I’m considering:
Comp Nitrous HP: 236/248 .520/.540 @ 113
Comp Xtreme Energy: 242/248 .540/.562 @ 110
I have a set of Comp Pro Magnum 1.6 rockers…
So…actually that would be:
Current cam: 230/244 .544/.576 @ 112
Cams I’m considering:
Comp Nitrous HP: 236/248 .555/.576 @ 113
Comp Xtreme Energy: 242/248 .576/.600 @ 110
Obviously Nitrous HP cam would perform better with nitrous…XE cam would be better for N/A…can’t decide…:dunno:
DUDE THAT SUCKS!!! So sorry to hear!
Go with AFR 195’s, hands down the best heads for the money you can buy right now. Else go 210 AFR’s and a big cam and go even faster
I had those heads, 383, with VERY SIMILAR cam 230/245 on a 109 lsa. If i still had that cam i’d give it to you. Ran mid 11’s on motor and mid 10’s on 150 shot if you remember. Car ran strong.
I’d go with a similar grind but tighten the lsa up for the carb car. That 242/248 XE grind is badass and would kill with AFR 210’s
For all nitrous shots under 200 hp, you dont need a nitrous cam. Get a good n/a cam with 4-6 degree split and your golden for both on and off the bottle
It’s ALIVE!!!
Fired it up yesterday afternoon…sounds great!
Now .040 over with the same 4" stroke = 410ci
I guess I could call it a 409 if I wanted to and really confuse people.
AFR 195’s…
Bigger Cam…
I am still running my 1.6 Comp Magnum rockers so that = .576/.599 lift!!
What a pain in the ass stroker motor are to build!!
Check out these rod bolts…
That is one I could not re-use vs a new one.
There were four of 'em so severly clearanced that I could NOT get them back in.
Look at the head on this one and imagine trying to put 90ftlb on that.
I had to make four new ones, install them, then clearance them in the motor.
Doesn’t sound too bad except the rods were BALANCED WITH THEM!!
I had to try and re-create them exactly as they were to maintain engine balance.
And fuck Summit too…rod bolts come in packs of 16 and packs of 2. I only needed 4.
Guess which ones Summit keeps in stock and which ones won’t ship until October.
$158 for four stinking rod bolts. Oh well, I have 12 extras if I ever need them.
And FUCK T&L!!!
Rods = 8 grams difference between the lightest and heaviest???
Crank = Not balanced…off the scale on B&R’s balance machine???
WTF is up with that?
I guess I am going to need a vaccuum pump to run the power brakes now as well.
Anone here have any experience with them? Which one is the best?
congrats
Congrats, Mike. How about Hydroboost?
congrats. and another vote for hydroboost. you can get the whole setup off a newer mustang for reasonable
Nice man, glad to see you got AFR’s and that cam…motor should be a real powerhouse when tuned up!! possible bottom 11’s on motor alone now…maybe high tens. Thats as much motor as tommy and he’s high 10’s on motor with his 406
How bad is the vacuum? with good tune and good spark advance at your idle with a 1000 rpm idle you should beable to have good enough vacuum for power brakes
