So it was made official today v.promotion

Congrats
Please watch the creative financing, i’ve seen way too many problems related to it.

So do you plan on getting a degree in the field just in case you end up going to another company? That experience + a degree is gold on a resume. Even if you did it backwards. lol

yep, thats me, I worked at basil toyota for 2.5 years, got alan the job there originally lol

do i know you?

Sweet, now I know where to get a good deal.

X…

Couldnt happen to a better dude, no give me an fj cruiser (no im not gay)

you dont need a degree to make the big bucks in this job right now, 20 years later though who knows :gotme:

bragging about a promotion on nyspeed. classy.

Well that’s the point. Some companies won’t even consider him without a degree down the road. It’s job security.

this is the kind of thinking that really gets people into trouble.

there are plenty of highly intelligent people in this world that are able to climb the corporate ladder, or succeed in sales (in beck’s case) without a college degree. these people are able to really capitalize while the market is hot, or capitalize off of some strategic advantage. however, in my position, i see people all the time that had great jobs and great careers, only to have it come tumbling down when the entity that provided them their career downsized or went under.

having a college degree, especially as it pertains to sales and business is crucial to long term career stability. in the short run, you can make a good buck if you are smart, street savvy, and good with people. but in the long run, you will run into trouble unless you have created and grown a business on your own, or taken the time to get a degree.

also, the car business can be very self limiting. people in car sales/finance role are generally limited to that, especially if they dont have a degree.

but what would i know, i am only a recruiter.

Dude… look around. This is 90% of what Nyspeed is lol.

lol I totally agree, I have been in school for 3 years and I will be in for 3 more. I was simply throwing it out there that from experience working in a dealership and my mother holding this very job, that a degree is currently not needed.

you are right though, the business is self limiting, auto finance is a very specialized function that doesn’t relate to many other careers in finance

:word: i was just expanding on where i think you were going with that.

I’m fully aware of the track record. I’m also aware of the reasons why these managers left and didn’t succeed. I was told the same thing when I got into sales at my first dealership. I was also told this when I came to Basil. The point is, if you do your job and do it well and establish yourself as a player in the field…you’ll never lose your job. Its just like any other job.

People that don’t want to work in the auto industry because of the high turnover are generally the people who are weak and aren’t considered an asset. You get what you give.

Beck as sales guy

X…

Nice job

Don’t sleep with the 16 yr old getting the corolla with mommy and daddy tho lol

well if your hearing it from anyone there, i wouldn’t believe a word, form jack, shannon, mike himself…

most of the ones left due to getting screwed out of money owed to them

hell that was part of the reason I left, the lady doing the payroll was not keeping track of cars that rolled over to later months and i wasn’t getting paid for them… her response was that its my job to make sure i’m getting paid for what i sell…yea, you do the payroll, thats your job not mine. needless to say, i got paid for them in the end but thats not the point

gary, brian…others i cannot remember the names of, but the same thing happened to them

dont get me wrong, its great you got the position, i almost went that route myself before i realized the car business sucks and 2.5 years wasted, I walked out.

BECK don’t listen to any of the negatives… only the positives.

  1. every sales manager/dealer/owner I know and every one who wants to be a successful one at that started as a finance guy so do a good job, work your ass off and it will take you somewhere. I know, I started as a lot bitch, body man, then salesman, internet manager, finance manager, sales manager and now I’m running a dealership.

  2. unless people know the intimate details regarding the auto industry and that store… don’t listen to them. If they no longer work there then they know even less because they don’t know what changes have been made and why.

  3. congrats, you’ll do great!

yay for the title of my position :frowning:

sorry… I did alot of really crappy jobs since I was the owners nephew and that’s what I felt like.

lol its okay… i prob would have moved up by now but i left
