make a list of EXACTLY what you want out of a car. then research cars that match up to what you want it to do. then buy it when you get money. i know you’re not researching very much, cause you’re gonna need at Least 15K to even begin to consider S2K’s. at least do that much, then make these threads. bikerfry threw out some pretty interesting stuff
1990-94 Civic coupe/hatch
-light
-easy to make lighter
-HUGE aftermarket makes performance parts easier to find and less expensive than on other cars
-decent on gas too.
Yeah I wouldn’t even recomend you buy a Z if you plan on tracking it. I’ve put a lot of money into my car to make it the way I want it, and it’s not slow but look at how fast the EVO / STI guys were out there.
i realize Onyx has put a lot into his Z, and one if the reasons i like the Z (and the 944) is its something that i could learn to drive with, and still something i could take out. it wouldnt be a dedicated track car as much as a nice car that i would be able to drive when i want to.
Every day I come on here I see a different “I THINK I WANT TO BUY A XXXXXX” thread from you…everything from german luxury sedans to lowered trucks to japanese supercars. Could you be more broad in what you want? lol.
Hmm… So you’re going to learn to race in a heavy, collectable, JDM supercar? There’s a bit of wisdom that says “People do what they want, and then justify it with logic.” You seem to be the king of this. Deep down you actually have a clue right? I don’t mean to come across as a dick or anything because you seem like you’re probably a pretty nice/cool guy, but you just don’t seem to get it.
If you are serious about getting a car to track, it would be an equally dumb move to exclude the cars that you did.
For the amount of money you want to spend, your best options are not on your list.
What makes an excellent track day/ time trial car?
Cost
Parts availability
cost of parts
Now don’t get me wrong, you can track a 300ZX. But you’d better come to the table with a lot more than $8000.
Don’t go for the cool car. Go for the functional car, or the car that you can “afford” to make functional.
Re-assess your priorities and budget, then start doing some research into the cars. Some of the cars you are not considering would be much better/cheaper to track than what you are currently leaning towards.
