So say you work for a faceless corperation.

And you just so happen to work the shit position of taking technical support calls for over 2 years with no hope of moving up, not to mention doing it for years prior elsewhere. Then you happen to get a second job that kicks ass compared to it even though it pays less but will allow you to finally go back to school. You decide you’ve had enough of it and can’t take it anymore.

Do you:

A. Flip shit on the first angry customer of the night and walk out like you’ve always wanted to since day one. Potentially affecting future jobs. While recording it also, so it can be used as a YTMND later on.

B. Put in your 2 weeks notice, be a good corporate citizen leave on fair terms. Not knowing if you would be better off later down the road when it comes time for a new job if you had done option A.

C. Wait two months under the strain of both jobs. Not sleep for 2 months and use all 96 hours of vacation time/personal time. Then take option A or B afterwards.

D. Become a Zombie and eat brains. And keeping doing both with a good chance of losing your sanity a month down the road.

A would be fun but it will bite you in the ass later on. i say pick Bg

*corporation

definitely leave on good terms. no need to flip out for no reason. if you need stress relief, work an extra week and spend that money on booze and strippers!

look for other places… when you find something else… bam just leave

You never burn bridges thats what you do.

if youve been there for that long leave on good terms. you cant have a two year gap in your resume (ie no reference because you flipped on someone).

Buffalo’s waaaay too small of a town to burn bridges. Find out if you get paid for your accrued vacation/personal time if you walk. That might influence your decision…

B.

As much as I’ve wanted to I’ve never burned bridges. And it has helped me considerably. Like Bikerfry said, this is a small town.

use vacation time, then quit

C then B.

Suffering through two months of two FT jobs is generally worth it, so long as You don’t absolutely waste the cash.

And, never burn bridges in this town. Not only do You have to worry about the influence on the resume… But You never know. Someone You work with now, who witnesses Your breakdown/out, could very well be an influence on Your career later on. It’s a small town.

Who would I ask so I don’t get let go for being a “flight-risk”? Unfortunatly we don’t have the ability to look up every policy. And working nights I never see HR so I have no one to really go to.

Though I’m leaning with B currently regardless if it does or does not pay out the vacation time.

B
I am amazed how jobs I had in college have come in handy now especially since I left them on good terms.

If you are a good employee B, If a bad employee A… even then maybe B
When you go for a real job the have ppl check your background, including past employment. References are also always a + and will help you move up the ladder to a better jobby job at some point… Flipping shit will lead to a security escort out of the bldg, and if anyone you work with is ever in a hiring position at another place you can be sure you won’t be working there.

I will say a combo of A and B.
Put in your 2 weeks, like a good corporate citizen.
Then proceed to answer calls like normal, but if you come across (Ms. Wheres the any key?) Then you politely say you are a retard and move onto the next call. And things of that nature.
Talk down to and use big words to as many customers as you can.
Have many subtle arguments but always in a cheerful voice and throw in things like DIAF, but don’t tell them what it means.
You are a creative guy I’m sure you can think of many more ways to be a complete asshole to as many people as possible with out getting directly fired for it. And if you do, o-well at least you have a fall back plan.

Never burn a bridge. You have no idea what your future holds and who you will work for down the road.

I can’t get away with that on every call, I wouldn’t last more than ten minutes. Hell I’d probably be out after the first or second released call.

Obvious.

That is 90% of the job. Now mastering being rude in a cheerful voice… that takes talent.

I’ll just suck it up and finish the last two weeks, it’s too big of a company to take the chance. Even if I’ve been wanting to do it for years upon years.

when i quit client logic i brought out all the old error codes
“i’m sorry sir, you’re suffering from an ID 10 T error”
“This looks like a typical PEBKAC error, you can troubleshoot it with the manufacturer”

haha, that would be great if my dad has to escort you out

That was pretty priceless listening to that one row over. Didn’t they kick you out after you stopped taking calls half-way through. Or something like that.

E. Find a better paying job, tell current employer that you’re going there for better pay/benefits… then let the bidding war begin (it’ll cost them more on average to replace you, in most cases, than to give you a little more)
