So the bank called me today...

So I deposited some money I got from a truck I recently sold at my HSBC bank yesterday.

Came home after school/etc to find a message on my answering machine stating I needed to call this guy (ended up being the teller who took my deposit at the bank) as soon as possible.

So I checked my account and the deposit had not cleared… :frowning:

I called the guy back today around 2:30 when I got home from school.

Turns out “One or more” of the bills I deposited were counter-fit…

I can’t help but feeling I just lost all the money I was paid for the truck and basically gave it away for nothing…

What can I do?

Ohh my… sorry to hear man.

You have a receipt for the guy who bought it. The bank has the bills. Wonder if you can contact the police since it is fraud with currency.

But I’m guessing.

sorry to hear

were by chance any of them old school 20’s? my brother had this happen recently.

I’ve always wanted (to see) a counterfit bill. But yeah, I’d have to imagine the secret service is already planning to give you a call, let us know how it goes.

Jeff that sucks, was it anyone on here?

damn in for results

I assume you immediately called the police. What did they say?

so mega gay…

find the dude

dude that sucks. im pretty sure the twenty you gave me was real lol. now im going to check every single bill i have fml.

if you need a character witness or something. let me know. invest in a pen for checking bills and always have a light to check water marks ect, people might think its dicky, but i try to always check bills when i get them.

the girl laughed when i sold my teg cuz i was checking the bills.

thats awful. but i’m assuming you have the kids name you sold the truck to and you also have a receipt or proof of the transaction i hope! :frowning: i hope the police can do something about it and you’ll most likely be able to take the kid to small claims court to get your money.

You still have the guys name and number when you spoke to him about selling the truck?
Tell him you have some more parts/etc. that he can have for free if he comes to pick them up… and have the police waiting.

How can you be so sure he knew it was fake? I bet each and everyone of us on this site has at one point or another passed a fake bill without even knowing it.

report said truck as stolen?

Order new copy of title? – at least it will flag someting at the DMV

If it was a whole stack of em, he knew it.

My fiance had a fake 20 passed onto her somehow…didn’t know till it was denied at the store.

That sucks, were these hundreds? Seems to me that if I was taking cash for a car, I’d have one of those $3 pens to make sure they were legit. Although, that would be fun

“hmm, bud, these aren’t real”
“uh, ok” punches you in face, leaves in truck…

Counterfeit bills definitely suck cause the person that did the actual counterfeiting is smart enough not to pass them somewhere they’d get caught. Someone down the line ends up getting hosed.

Wow HSBC saw you comin’. They keep a reserve of fake money for just such an occasion. I trust no one so I bought one of those pens.

I gotta call my guy at the branch to get some more fake hundreds. Time to make it rain this weekend!
