Ooh, end game in WoW.
IMO, end game in wow is really accessible, much more so than most other MMO’s. You can hit the level cap (60) in WoW awfully fast, and if you start running the right instances early enough, be fairly well geared when you do.
Places like Zul’Gurub and Ahn’Qiraj are only 20 person raid instances. You can break em up over several days with your raid group, or guild, and spend only a couple hours at a time. Once you learn the place, and get geared out, your raid or guild can hammer through the whole place in 3-5 hours. The 20 person runs are generally aimed at less geared and experienced groups. The drops aren’t as good as some of the 40 man raids, but still very nice, and the size of the group you need makes them more manageable. At the same time though, less people means that each person has to do more in the group. You can’t have 5 people afk making a sandwhich and still beat bosses like you can in MC, a 40 man raid.
The 40 person instances are a bit tougher and longer, but still accessible. Again, you can break them up into multiple sessions (except Onyxia), and because the 40 man instances have a reset time of a week, you can go in for a couple hours at a time 5 days if you like. And again, once you learn them and get geared, you hammer through them in 3-5 hours. The hardest part of doing these instances is getting 40 people online at the same time with enough time to do anything. Once you have a good group that shows up, you learn the place and progress through quickly.
I MT (main tank) my raid groups raids, and I raid 5-15 hours a week, depending on what raids I decide to go to. We started raiding in October, and we currently clear ZG, AQ20, Onyxia, and MC weekly, and are starting in BWL. I know it seems like a lot, but compared to other MMOs i’ve played, the end game in WoW is really easy to get into.
End game in FFXI is pretty hard 
unless you are a bard or a white mage (priest).
There are only a few end game English speaking Linkshells (guilds) in FFXI on our server Kujata that have any notariety: PurpleReign (mine), Outspoken (Best LS), Evil (noobs, but ok), DistantBeliefs (botters), DiesIrae (meh)… basically, end game groups are hard to get in, but we all know of each other and each other’s accomplishments.
