So you think you have deep dish?

so what does ur car really have, i read IRS, what about the motor and tranny??

gl with the project.

hes got a 3.8l v6 with KN filter, flowmaster catback, and 75 shot of juice  Those bigger meats arent gonna be enough me thinks

im serious u fagor, last time we raced, he was a NA 4.6

Haha well this VW kid for one thinks they look kinda goofy, like wheels inside tunnels. :stuck_out_tongue: :suckoff:

Violator, are you worried about them bending at all? Say in hard corners or anything? It seems to me that you are going to get a lot of torque trying to bend the edge of the lip towards the axle, especially in comparison to the original 2" lip. You more than doubled the length of the thing!

Ah well, either way, cool project and they came out looking well machined.

Im not worried about any kind of flex. They were really well done and the welds are totally solid. You would really freak If I told you what kind of torque is going to go through these things.

The car does have a IRS which is being build by me now. I cut the unused solid axle brackets off the chassis and am seam welding the car now.

Im not going to say anything about the motor but the tranny will be a T56 … probably from a Viper. I had one but had to sell it cuz of some trouble bills.
I wont say anything about the motor at this point. The current one is stock but there is another sitting in the garage. I dont want to say anything because I dont want to blow smoke. In any case the direction I want to go with the motor is VERY, VERY, VERY expensive. I will not settle for anything less then doing things the right way and I want it perfect.

No shortcuts, no hacks, no cheap parts, no bullshit.

If you see my retarded mindset with what came of the rims you can kind of guess how sick the motor will be.

People have always asked me why did I do all the show work and not work on the motor. The answer is pretty simple. I would rather leave it stock then but gay, bullshit mods, like cams or headers on it like other mustang guys do.

Its all or nothing.

I like your mindset about the whole project. You seem to have everything laid out pretty well about what you plan to do with the car. Go big or go home, and do everything once, but do it right . I can’t wait to see what you do with the car, what will be done with the motor and how the widebody modification is going to look. Good luck with everything man.

the engine , just gotta make a different scoop …

pneumatic valvetrain would be nice … 12k rpm v8 drool

You are taking a car that I hate and making it a car I like

Thats inpressive

:poke: ehh i dont know about that, maybe someday we can go at it again.

How precision is your machining? Does that affect balancing at all? Just curious.

The funny thing is if anyone really asks me what I think of the car (cant say the name cuz other owners will get pissed), I will be the first to tell you its a big pile of shit. Ford did a lousy job. Those assholes built a car to sell as many of as possible and thats about it. The only thing in there thats worth anything is the motor. BTW the 03 - 04 Cobras have many improvements and are much better cars then what I started out with.

My other choice was a Camaro but I dont like the way Chevy motors sound and I hate the interiors. To me the way a car sounds makes or breaks the entire driving experience. I bought my car because it had the most potential in my price range. I was eyeballing a Supra 1.5 years before “that” movie came out. If it wasnt for the stupid movie I could have picked one up for $14k when I finally had the money. There were no other affordable imports that I liked.

I used to drive my fathers Lexus LS400 around when I was 18 so Im know what materials, textures, fit and finish, and overall quality is supposed to be. My standards are pretty high. The only problem is Im on my own so my job can only take me so far. Cant run out and buy a Murcielago just yet.

My appreciation for Fords build quality is the reason Im rebuilding almost the entire car.

The machining is on the money but if you look at the outer shell of the wheel you can see the weld bead. The outer bead was left as is and not machined to preserve its strength. The band that was inserted started out as a flat strip of metal. That strip has to be attached and welded end to end. That one weld is located on only one side of the rim… this does create a imbalance.

Obviously all wheels need to be balanced once tires are mounted. The reason for this is that most tires are out of balance because the molding process does not distribute the rubber perfectly. The other imbalance is the valve stem. The stem could be 3/4 inch long or 2 inches long. It could be all rubber or have a chrome steel shell. These differences create another imbalance. In all these are just minor factors that any weight adding balancing will clear up… the weld seam included.

one thing you supposed to do when balancing a wheel / wire combo is to locate the overlap in the tire 180* away from the valve stem , that way the valve stem helps balance the tire

ever notice how all new cars have a big fat paint dot on all 4 tires ? thats what that is, and most replacement tires have somesort of marking on them. the dot is supposed to aligned w/ the valve stem

I learned something new today

Wheels look baller. Keep us posted on the buildup

Who did the welding and machine work? Looks good so far

I did not know that, thanks

I want to see pics of the car getting cut in half. I dont think I would have the guts to cut a car like yours all up.

When you rebuild lose the z3 fenders and the hood.

That is all

thats a cobra r hood dude …

Weldcraft Wheels in Michigan

I havent decided on the fenders but the hood definitely stays. This entire project is about being custom. I dont want a car that looks like the guy down the street has. The hood looks awesome on the car and is actually a OE Ford piece… not a repro.

Thanks to everyone for the encouragement. Much appreciated.

What would look baller if I can pull off stuffing Porsche 996 Twin Turbo Calipers and Rotors in there. More custom machining groan
The rotors have cast in holes and are OE porsche made by Zimmerman.
