Low 120’s trap speed on stock turbo. Low 11’s

There ya go them are some man numbers. Are you going to get it to the track stock turbo you think?

Yes, even if it means shelving the red turbo for a while. I want to see what I can do with the stock turbo.

Nice!

How do you preloaded the fuck out of a waste gate?

Whats a DLI?

Thanks!

You can preload the wastegate actuator by shimming it or using an adjustable rod
DLI= ignition amplifier

Is that also called “crushing” it?

I’ve never heard of crushing a wastegate, just a blow off valve. You preload the wastegate to allow it to open later to get full use of the compressor wheel on your turbo. It is an effective way to get high boost levels from stock internally gated turbos.

Ok thanks…

No. Crushing a BOV is just that. You put it in a vice and crush it, so that the spring is under pressure. On a WGA, you have a threaded rod, so you simply preload that.

Rewind to September. I decided to visit STM after doing some research on various forums. After all the hate, shit talking, the whole advertisement and banning of STM situation; I really did not have good hopes, but I figured a visit couldn’t hurt. I eventually got there and walked into the front door. The shop was pretty large for a temporary location. I was impressed with how clean the shop was and how many personnel were on the job. Emery greeted me at the counter top and we shot the shit for a little bit. He walked me around the shop and we talked a bit about my car and my goals.

He flat out told me I was dumb for some of the things I was setting up on my car. He was adamant about doing things the simple way.

Afterwards we all went out for lunch, shot the shit, and then I left.

At first I wasn’t too certain how to take it. I was pleased he was welcoming enough to show me around the shop, but I was kind of turned away when we kind of butted heads on the direction I was taking my set up in. I felt a little disconnected from Emery, which was not at all what I was looking for in a tuning situation.

Fast forward to October:

Out of pure boredom I decided I wanted to throw my cams into my car. Once I made the decision to throw them in I began to think of STM again. Mind you I have a freebie from Tamer @ 4wstuning if I wanted. I thought to myself It would be nice to see what kind of numbers my car would put down on the dyno. I also felt like it would be a good idea to put some money into the local environment. So, I called up emery again. I agreed to change my car accordingly for him so he could tune it.

So yesterday, I hurriedly complete my psych exam at school. Got in my car and drove down to STM.
There are some crazy agricultural things going on down broadway.

Upon arrival Emery greeted me. He seemed pretty eager to get to work. We loaded the car onto the dyno and played with the software a bit.

But then the nightmares ensued. Mind you, my car has been doing this for over a few weeks now. We thought we could iron them out on the dyno but it ended up being a large adventure. In third gear, at WOT the car cuts out at about 6psi at 3300 rpm. Consistently.

We played around with the tuning, tried 3 different roms. 2 MAF’s. Fixed some ground wires. Eventually we got the car to dyno a few times.

During the tuning we decided to play around with the injectors a bit more to get them as close as possible. Emery would not quit until the car was 100% perfect. On the last pull we got things almost perfect when disaster struck. The cutting out problem occurred again.

Either way, we made 310ft/lbs at 3,000 rpm @ 25psi, with low timing and running rich.

As the day rolled on, (we worked from 3-10pm, non stop) we noticed something strange. There was definitely a bad electrical problem, when emery would hit the brakes, the radio would light up and stay lit up. While lit up, the car would cut out. While off, the car would pull fine.

Emery immediately got underneath the dash and began ripping wiring out. A majority of things installed were not done so professionally. There was also some bad corrosion on the connector pins to the fuse block.

This ones for neonglh:

WEIGHT REDUCTION!

We called it quits at about 10pm. We were all very exhausted. I was extremely impressed with how much effort emery put into making my car run correctly. And even though we didn’t make much progress, we solved about 40 different problems, no exaggeration. Also, while we worked on the car I got to know Emery a bit better. We shot the shit and this time around I felt much more comfortable with him working on my car. When I thought about it, I realized how many punk ass kids emery must have come in, so I understand what was going on when I first came and visited. He was very indepth with me this time around, which I loved. More than 3/4 the fun of building a car is all the stuff you learn along the way with me, so everything that happened at STM was fun for me.

For as badly as people talk down about STM, I could not complain one bit about my experiences there. Emery definitely knows his shit, he is a perfectionist which is a good quality to have when it comes to cars, and he is a pretty cool guy to hang out with. After we worked our asses off we went out for dinner and shot the shit again, I had some fun.

Rolling back into buffalo at 2am though… No thanks!

To be continued…

PS: I just spend $850 today. Any guesses on what it is?

nice.good read.310 tq aint too bad on that dyno!

An EMS…

Good stuff

I’m going to say Hookers or Cocaine but not both.

Good to hear you worked those bugs out.

the labor for him to fix your car ? :gotme:

Since you spent the day there yesterday, I would guess a series 1 aem ems for that price.
