I like ebc for the fact it reacts to temperature changes and that it sure does give you more safety for your engine as it will do everything it can to compensate and stop it from over boosting and allows you to program how the boost comes on with profiles, etc…
But I think an mbc is more reliable, if you want different tunes you run the Buschur dual stage manual.
But you have to get your laptop out, hook up the Tactrix cable, make the adjustment to the map, burn it to the ROM, unhook everything, and then test is out. That is a lot more work than turning a knob
Plus, with a MBC, it’s mechanical, just a ball and spring, so there isn’t much to fail (very low failure rate on good MBC), where the EBC can have solenoid failure from moving parts, failed electrical connections, and mistakes in the ROM etc…
Both are pretty reliable, but there is definitely more to go wrong with the EBC.
Again, you don’t really make adjustments too often with an AWD car. I run 32 psi or so, and I never adjust it. There is just no need, I would never want to be slower, and I only run one type of fuel, so I would never adjust maps and stuff. It has it’s place, but I definitely see it more for a FWD car than an AWD car.
Well since this isn’t my dedicated drag car I’m setting it up to be switched between 93 and e85 on the fly. A dual stage boost controller could work, but it’s much more convenient for me to be able to have my ecu take care of the hard work. I’m willing to deal with the potential failure since I’m setting it up I think I’ll have a decent idea on what to fix.
I shouldn’t have to mess with my laptop once when everything is set up to my liking.
I’ll cross the bridge when the time comes, I still have a ton of other things to take care of before I get there. Either way I’m ordering a JDM map sensor to better take care of my logging needs. Switcing to BBECU or MBC should be a minor detail at the end of that.
so its too much work to turn a knob… but you also are going to have to empty your gas tank completely everytime, then put e85 in when u want it, and visversa
and yes u have to go into the ecu and edit everything. it’s a lot more work than turning a knob. however i suppose popping your hood and stepping out of your car is a pretty hefty workload
It’s not that much work to drive on the gas light and fill up with a different fuel. Thats NOT hard work. I HAVE to put the JDM map or something similar to get my computer to log the way I WANT IT. It’s a super minor step to re-hook the solenoid back up and take out some restricter pills.
Copy and pasting XML’s into the rom is a piece of cake too.
Don’t get all offended because I want my car set up properly to my likings instead of it being hacked. It’s my DD therefore I want things to be as convenient as possible. Push button seems pretty damn convenient.
First off my ECU pins did not come in. It’s been almost a week and my tracking information says delivered so I said fuck it and went to town. I ended up just splicing wires together with connectors, which works, but isn’t what I wanted to do.
Then I get my rom all flashed over and ready to rock and roll with a modified mut table. No problem there surprizingly.
But then I go to edit my XML files in Evoscan. Unfortunately I have version 2.7 which is 100% bullshit and has a ton of things changed. Not only that, but my serial code does NOT work on the older versions. So now I’m shit out of luck for today and all I have been waiting to do is start logging.
I hope the rest of this tuning adventure isn’t so crappy.
Oh yeah, and to top it off I spun my MBC a little while taking my negative terminal off. Gonna have a ton of fun going wot and putting that back where it belongs…
How much did it turn? It shouldn’t be too hard to adjust a MBC unless it turned like 10 turns in random order
And what ECU pins do you need? I have a bunch of ECU pins for an SRT4, which I am 90% sure are universal, so if you could use them, you are more than welcome to come up and get them.
Ordered a 4bar omni map sensor and a grimspeed 3 port solenoid today.
Regardless of what you fggts think about boost controlled by ecu, at least this will get the ball rolling on my upcoming speed density tune.
I’m also thinking about ditching E85 for 100 octane so I don’t need to go through a whole injector scaling process again . It’s pretty tedious but as for an update on that I have my low and middle fuel trims set perfectly. WOT soon!
This shows the process of working through street tuning with extensive logging. I had about 6 logs dedicated to 6 different tunes getting the low fuel trim dialed in. The last 3 sets are 20 minute street driving logs and 10-15 minute highway cruising logs to work on the mid level fuel trims straightened out.
Cannot complain though, my tuner is doing an excellent job. The car has never idled or drove so nicely since I bought it, and it’s not even done yet. Can’t wait to see/feel the finished product.
Lastly, Kelford 272’s and GSC valve springs coming soon!
But I have been falling victim to excellent advertising from CBRD race factory. I don’t see any down side to almost 400whp+ on 93 octane with almost stock spool characteristics!
Although, this is just fantasy for me right now. First things first, cam upgrade.
Then I’ll worry about the rest of that next season. I have the opportunity to snag a quartermaster twin disk for my car but I’m not sure exactly what I want to do with that.
