What turbo is that?
A ported BBK. It’s like an fp green but it has been shown to put down more power.
Idk, I’m still up in the air about the entire thing. It’s a thought at the most and I’m just browsing.
did u find out if 5spd is able to use mikes 6spd clutch yet?
oh and…
fpblack
i fucking hated driving on the quartermaster. u have to ride the shit out of it. i never launched or did anything like that but normal driving sucked. you cant take off slow without bogging the rear.
its not hard once you get used to it…
The clutch will bolt right up. If I remember correctly he has the TOB with 3 tabs on it. You could buy the one for the 5 speed brand new which has 4 and it will work but you would probably wanna have that tranny built using that clutch. But what would I know…And I’m sure that used twin is probably on it’s way out. They aren’t rated for high miles and daily driving use
F that clutch
I’ve honestly heard people with certain act clutches do not get the lockout problem I’ve been having.
Idk, still up in the air about the whole thing. My clutch holds fine now. But in the future I’m going to have 1,000 extra rpms to play with, and I know for a fact my clutch won’t let me access them.
ACT may not have the lockout problems (but most of them do), but they will wear the tranny down prematurely. I still swear by the first, and best mod for an Evo is a good clutch. I would do that before a turbo, or cams, if I were you. You will thank yourself for the rest of the life of the car, without doubt.
:word: ACT’s are fucking GARBAGE, plain and simple. my ACT played a roll in killing my stock tranny. i only suggest two clutches to everyone, quartermaster (if you dont mind the noise/harsh engagement) or an exedy twin/triple w/ STM clutch fork stop (depending on your power goals). but its your car, good luck!
OR… a Tilton carbon/carbon if you’re a baller ass mofo
Paul i dont have any problems with my ACT
thats why your tranny grinds in 3rd, 5th, etc lol. try powershifting the car at 8k and see what happens lol
Is it fast?
I think the clutch vs tranny debate is bullshit. Go on evoM and you’ll hear: “My quartermaster destroyed my tranny, my exedy twin broke my tranny, ACT sucks blah blah”
You put any upgraded clutch in an evo tranny and it’s going to wear faster. The clutch is supposed to be the soft/weak point in the driveline. So of course you put your 800 ft/lbs rated clutch in and launch your car often, the tranny is the first thing to break. Especially if it’s unsprung.
The car I drive has had this ACT extreme duty pressure plate w/ sprung street disc for over 50k miles. The tranny has no grinds and the engagement is excellent. My only complaint is that I get locked out at 7k (Which on stock springs and retainers you shouldn’t be revving above anyways IMO)
I’m looking into a quarter master but it depends on how it is. I’m not entirely thrilled about running a clutch that has harsh engagement and makes a lot of noise in my DD that will be making under 450 whp and 400 wtq likely its entire life.
From what I understand, lock out is entirely dependent on the mass rotational mass of the clutch disc itself. If I could cram even a act 6 puck and be able to shift at 8000rpm I’d be more than ecstatic. I’m not looking forward to having a loud twin disc on a car that I drive a lot everyday.
Same!
Anywho, I got new parts in today.
Grimspeed 3 port
4 bar map sensor
Yay.
4 bar = lots of boost
yay
Sick!!
Got all my new parts installed and got the new rom flashed in.
Here are some pictures of the install.
I discovered during the install I had a huge vacuum leak I missed during my personal checkup… (My tuner will not be happy to hear this…)
On the line running from the MBC to the waste gate actuator there was a huge hole. The vacuum line was resting against the fan on the radiator where I imagine it soaked up a bunch of heat.
I also bought enough oil for my first oil change. I ended up getting royal purple, not my usual norm but I thought i’d give it a shot since it was on sale $5 a quart.
This is maintenance week. I plan on ordering my t-case and transmission fluid, new tie rod end, and rotors.
Hah, steak knife to cut vac lines
Lol my mom gave me her old cutlery a while back and I didn’t have the work truck where the razors are stored.
Or I was eating steak and wrenching
