To the corner with you!

All taken apart.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v374/sockington/240sx/july21/09.jpg

I dropped off the subframe to be sandblasted. It should be done by the end of next week.

Maybe I can paint it pink to one up Bing.

I decided that while everything is apart that I might as well get to the motor mounts.

My amazing diagram.

8" of Clearance. 9" of oil pan.

Old motor mounts off the crossmember.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v374/sockington/240sx/July24/03.jpg

Using a torch and a rubber hammer, I massaged the oil pan back the 1". I checked with the oil pump and neck in place to make sure there was room.

A little more.

Getting ready to hold motor over crossmember and make mounts.

Then, the god damn ForkLift was out of propane. I gotta wait for another day after the damn tanks are filled.

any more pics of the bushing install? i wanna see!

plus can u do a how to with your amazing pics? i wanna see how hard is it to do!

Got the rear subframe sand blasted. It’s off to powdercoating now.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v374/sockington/240sx/july28/01.jpg

very cool.

Hey how about shaving off the rear side markers, haha, i want to do that… and perhaps the front ones too (perhaps relocate like the euro one? Except use something nicer). And the trunk on mine I think I’m going to remove the trunk’s red light (the little flat black thing, my painter painted over it anyways which pisses me off but yeah…)

I think a harmonious design is what I want in my car… and a sleeper mostly… with only subtle hints of its potential.

I like cars which shave off badges, stickers, huge fancy symboled grills, etc… it gives the car a raw feel…

Ah well, keep it up bro, looking forward to more progress.

Im curious, did you sand blast the rear subframe yourself? if not how

much did it cost you to get it sandblasted and how much is it gonna cost

you to get the subframe powder coated? , im curious because we need to

drop my dads subframe its pretty bad condition we are gonna see if we

can salvage it maybe do the same thing your doing sandblast and powder

coat.

~ Justin

I haven’t had much time to work on the project. I’ve been selling parts online to get some money to fund the motor side of things. Also, the rear subframe is going out for powdercoating today, so once that is done, things will be going back together.

How it sits.

A touch more work on the wheel well.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v374/sockington/240sx/july31/02.jpg

Some hot multi-colour rocker panel action.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v374/sockington/240sx/july31/03.jpg

why didn’t you just get a new oil pan?

i think he wanted to mount the engine back more & lower? i could be wrong.

hmm … i see.

They don’t make an oil pan that fits my needs.

The guy that was going to do my poweder coating told me it’ll be about 3weeks before his next order for black (I just toss my stuff in when some other customer pays for things to be done and give him some cash), so I figured I’d take the painting into my own hands to speed things up.

Tremclad. Flat black.

Figured I’d spray the passenger rear wheel well and then give it a sand later to see how lumpy it is.

Passenger rocker.

Painted the rear pan since it was a mix and match of black, pink, and white.

Ordered some solid subframe bushings from Bings.ca, so I should have the rear subframe back in the car by Tuesday morning.

You probably hear this alot but. Holy crap you got some serious conviction. i would have gave up long ago!

^ I wouldn’t have started.

I’m having trouble staying interested - was just offered a 87 MR2 with a GOOD BODY.

More work tommorow.

I had an 87 mr2 the only place to look for rust is the rear quarters. other than that there not really rusty cars in general. its mid-rear engined so thats good. Get an S/C mr2 sopposidly there 0-100 in 6.5s

Motor time.

Motor, hanging out on the crossmember.

Some new bolts to hold up the front crossmember.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v374/sockington/240sx/aug08/04.jpg

Had to grind the washers to fit against the inside fender.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v374/sockington/240sx/aug08/05.jpg

Had to hammer the firewall back a bit for the fit, but it’s still an inch too far out to fit the tranny in there.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v374/sockington/240sx/aug08/06.jpg
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v374/sockington/240sx/aug08/11.jpg

Also had to cut the rear out of the oilpan to clear the steering rack.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v374/sockington/240sx/aug08/07.jpg

How’s that for room?
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v374/sockington/240sx/aug08/08.jpg
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v374/sockington/240sx/aug08/09.jpg

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v374/sockington/240sx/aug08/10.jpg

Also, got my solid bushings in from Bings. The quality exceeds what I expected. . Go Bing, Go.

So, with those bushings in hand, that means the subframe goes in tommorow.

Man I see things are coming along great, MAD props for the body work you must be a patient man, cause im in the middle of body work and its driving me fucking insane !! i hate it i hate it… so you keep up the good work.

One was really fucking tight. I had to “press it” in rather than just whack it with the rubber mallet.

What the hell is he doing to that oil pan?
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v374/sockington/240sx/aug11/11.jpg

And what does the transmission have to do with it?
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v374/sockington/240sx/aug11/12.jpg

Oh. Makes sense now.

The remains.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v374/sockington/240sx/aug11/22.jpg

As is, I need to hammer back on the top of the transmission tunnel to get that extra 1/2" of clearance so the shifter is in a decent position. Overall, progress is good and I expect the mounts to take shape next week.
