Sock's 240sx Rusto Project (56k, tons of pictures)

so to get all the bushings out, what did you do? jut chizzle it out and/or blow torch it? and to put new ones in, you just use the vice grip to press it in?

few more q’s

what bushings did you use, energry suspension?
and to replace the front lower control arm ball joint or whatever it is, you can just replace the ball joint like the rear ones or u have to get a whole new LCA?

the one on my S13 is so screwed, it jerks the car soo much when turning left especially on highways, i thought it was the hicas helping out, but…no.

I burned the rubber bushings and then tapped out the metal centers. Then, with the torches, I cut the metal sleeves out of the multi-link. The manual suggests that you use a hacksaw to cut the sleeves.
Then, I used a bolt setup to press/pull the new bushings into place.

Yup.

Yes, front lower ball joints are easily availble and easily replaced.

Sounds like a barrel of safe right there.

Thats not the smallest vice I’ve seen either… that takes skill…

Chances are it was already cracked…

Pulled the motor out today to do some more suspension work. Of course, by hand.

When I walked around back of the car I remembered the hatch needed to be replaced.

I found this sticker on the bottom corner of the hatch. I highly DON’T reccommend these guys. Clearly they did a shit job on this car.

I only got in about 35minutes today (had other things to get done today), but expect little but frequent updates this week.

^ lol nice sticker.

To add to Sock’s comments, dont worry about pressing the bushings in, just cut them in half with a sharp KNIFE (not a saw or anything that will remove material) and you can do it with your hands and no tools easily.

That’s why my hand is cut right now.
“Oh, I’ll give it a shot.” Now look at me! My hand is gimped!

yeah i read it somewhere that i can cut it…
i’ gotta give it a try
hey…socko…how much did you pay for the front energy suspension kit?

Bought the whole kit. It came to ~$250 CDN with shipping. Damn border charges.

it makes me sad knowing that ill be doing this all winter this yr. my rails are worce then urs if thats possible… most of the parts im guna try to make myslef on the laith or what not. see how far this goes… thankfully i have a full new front drivers side frame rail. but i pulled the gas tank out and the back of the rails are that bad to. shit. anyhow good job with what ur doing and expect to hear from me alot this winter!!

Damn skippy they are.

This will probably be the last update for a while since college is occupying most of my time. I expect I will get some work done this winter, but it won’t be at the rate I was doing it during the summer.

Wheels somewhat on.

For the first time since March, the car is off jackstands.

Hmm… that’s kind of low. Top of roofline measures 46.5 inches.
