Sock's 240sx Rusto Project (56k, tons of pictures)

Holy… now that’s determination. I think I have to work on my patience skills, cause I couldn’t imagine getting started on something like that. Bro, keep it going and I hope everything turns out the way you’ve planned. Your a soldier man

Got some subframe bushing collars in this morning (got em’ used for a smoking price). Now I just have to order the master bushing set and I’ll be on my back to reconstruction.

Alrighty, today I got four hours in on the car.

First off, finishing up some more rocker work.

What low spots?

I decided that all this body work was driving me nuts, so I went up to remove some brake lines.

I found this weird little “black goop” pile on the fender. After I pulled it off, I found this little hole the previous owner covered up. Interesting, they left holes the size of footballs on the outside, but this little hole needed attention? Grinded smooth.

I figured since some of the inter-panel sealer/glue was missing, I’d weld up the panel.

More rocker panel work!

Looks way better than at the start.

Putting a re-inforcement along the subframe carrier rail.

More lines ripped out.

Now here’s an odd problem. The original Nissan motor ran the exhaust down the driver side in that big “dent” area. The Ford motor runs the exhaust down the passenger side. I’m going to run all the fuel and brake lines down the driver side and hopefully be able to hide a 3" exhaust on the the passenger side.

Closed up for the night.

Overall, I think I’m making some pretty good progress. I’ve never done body work before, so I think I did a fairly good job on that rocker panel. I’ve got lots more work to do - and that’s an understatement.

you’ve definitely still got your work cut out for you but keep it up!

Like I already said, get this done for June 10th!

Also, you might have some issues with ground clearance if you run the exhaust down the passenger side, I’d suggest either maybe cutting a hole and rebuilding it similar to the drivers side or just using the some fancy angles in your piping and bringing it over to the drivers side like its supposed to be… ground clearance issues are the worst and you’ll probably regret it later.

The V8 guys bring both of their headers down over to the drivers side, i dont see why you couldn’t do it.

im pretty sure he cant get this done by june 10th, maybe the body work yea, but probably not all the engine assembly and plumbing customization, if you can do that wow i’ll be really impressed, although I highly doubt it, work looks decent so far

i dont think so either, i just need to keep bugging him about it just in case ;] ;]

I’ll try my hardest to get everything sorted by the first of next year. I’m not rebuilding the car with worn out or half gone parts. It can sit while I buy the new suspension pieces.

noooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

Do you have stairs in your house?

I am protected.

Still hasn’t moved much since last time.

Rust holes that need to be fixed - The comprehensive list

Driver’s trunk area.

The driver’s inside rear quarter panel - by the muffler.

And the passenger side one too.

Passenger’s rear wheel well.

Passenger’s Rear Sill/Rocker panel.

Driver’s front rocker area - below the door.

Now, on to some good stuff. The repaired (just about done) driver’s rocker panel.

The driver’s rear wheel well.

The subframe mount.

Passenger frame rail at rear.

Opposite view as last picture. This is from where the bumper would be looking toward the passenger seat.

Rear bumper removed. Look at all that white. I think I’m going to “re-white” the car.

My new floor jack with jack stands.

Piles of S13 related crap.

Ditto. Also, spare Altima motor.

Inside randomness

Turns out the tiny little stock IHI turbo on the 2.3 is smoked. I never really looked at it since I assumed it was shit, but now it’s confirmed.

Tiny little turbo.

Closed up. Although, I never really started today - just took pictures.

hey PM me if you want I have a IHI RHB5 turbo lmk not that expensive

Heh, no worries. Since the stock motor was running 15psi, the IHI was well out of breath to start with. I’m going with either a T3/4 or the mighty Holset HX-35. 8)

I got a delivery today - it excited me.

What ever could be in this innocent box?

Getting closer.

Closer again.

BAM! Coilover time.

Stock mounts are for wussies. Bonus camber adjustment!

Both front coilovers.

Bam! All four.

I hear they’re expensive.

Again, no rubber mounts.

So, I’m pretty pumped. Also, I cut out the big rotten section that on the driver’s rear quarter area. Now I just have weld in the new section.

those are awsome coils i retail them for 1800…

let me know how they are… i was thinking of running em on my car

GT

I’ll let you know once the car is back together.

Do you sell the adjustment tool seperately? I didn’t get one.

cute dog

jesus christ, that is a lot of work you have on your hands. Looks like it is coming along very well, good work dude.

New coilovers vs. old setup.

They look purdy in their new home.

What ever could that pile of rusted metal be from?

Well, remember this mess?

It’s now become this.

I look forward to welding in the new material (actually, not at all).
