It featured eight engines and three sets of triple wings. Two pontoons, mounted on each side, were intended to give the aircraft stability. Only one example of this aircraft was built by Caproni. The prototype only made one short flight on 4 March 1921 over Lake Maggiore in Italy. The aircraft attained an altitude of only 18 m (60 ft), then dived and crashed, breaking up on impact. The pilot escaped unscathed. Caproni had the wrecked airplane towed to shore, and announced that he would rebuild it, but that night it burned to ashes.

nice pics and info

add the car plane if you can find info and a good pic

that 1959 ufo lmao

the ekranoplan is actually a pretty cool piece of coldwar tech. The Soviets finally were able to build one that would carry a few cruise missles and fly at just over 300 mph. Back in the day it was their answer to the American carrier fleet.

XF-84H. Turbine powered supersonic propellor aircraft. Quite possibly the loudest aircraft ever built. It produced sonic booms from the prop even at idle on the Tarmac. Stated it could be heard over 25 miles away on the ground left alone flying above

Tupolev TU-95. Another supersonic prop aircraft, just asnloud as the XF but also the fastest propellor driven aircraft ever built.

The soviet union built some of the nuttiest things to ever take flight and I love their crude deign in most

another interesting one is the P61 black widow

got a buddy that works at Scaled Composites (home of proteus above)

they got all sorts of oddball aircraft there

dont forget the De Havilland Mosquito.

built entirely from plywood, twin engined, and completely unarmed and unarmored. made to be a photo reconnaissance plane, being able to outrun any german fighters in the sky during the late second world war, when other materials were desperately needed to build everything else.

that came out of my memory, and im way too tired to get the wiki article on it. check it out, it’s pretty neat.

It amazes me that some of the aircraft in this thread can get off the ground.

McDonnell XF-85 Goblin
looks like a vehicle you’d see in the movie despicable me

It looks like Gru’s car :rofl

This. The only one I would touch is the X-29.

This little guy is pretty cool…

Would ride in teh bomb bay doors of a B-36 to be deployed when necessary and then latch back to a hook when it was done…

I still refuse to get on the tiny prop airplanes. Flew one home from NJ once. Never a FUCKING gain’.

Yeah they are sketchy at best. I flew one of those from Pittsburgh to Albany years ago. They don’t fly all too high and the turbulence is insane. Then they kinda hop on landing. Yeah no thanks.

I had to fly on the tiniest little ‘puddle jet’ when I had to go to Vancouver Island for work. On the trip back, it was a 6am flight and there were so few people on board that they told us we had to spread out to even out the weight distribution or we wouldn’t be able to take off… that was an interesting flight to say the least.

We had to make an emergency landing in one of those at Rifle airport in Colorado. Aspen airport was on hold due to a blizzard and we were getting low on fuel. I feel like I remember them having to have an even amount of people on each side of the plane. I think it had 16 seats total lol.

I had to fly on a smaller turbo prop in St. Maarten and it wasnt too bad, quite loud and a little shakey but it was terrifying feeling

Back seat on a tiny seaplane while its turning hard WEEEEEE

Started a good topic Vlad, since this is a hobby of mine.
