So this is the first year I’ve had to fly on 9-11 since the year of the attacks. I never tried to avoid it, my schedule just happened to work out that way. But yesterday I had to fly, and we did a couple of flights in and out of NYC. They were landing to the north and with the direction of flight we were coming from, we got some great views of the WTC site. Once during the day, and once at night. The first pic is during the day, and you can see the massive hole in the ground where the the towers used to be. The last two are from the same spot but at night. Last night they had these two lights that were so bright, we could see the beam when we were still 80 miles away. Not sure if anyone has ever seen these before, but it is quite a sight. They had them placed where the towers used to be, pointing straight up. The pictures don’t do them justice, and I took them with my shitty camera phone. I really need to start carrying my good camera with me.
Very cool, i’ve flown on those little jets a bunch of times when making a connection flight. Usually buffalo to cincinatti or DC in one of those things.
…AND during take off, lol! I’m never listening to those fake announcements again, haha.
Nice shots in any case. I just came to UB last year, so I lived close enough to the whole scene being only 20 or so miles from the city. I saw the lights when they first put them up a few years ago.
haha thats funny. I have a Treo so the phone part doesn’t have to be on to use the camera. But I usually do forget to turn it off. I’ve never had it mess up the navigation system though. Maybe if every single person on the plane left their phone on, and we still used the old school radio navigation. For the most part we use GPS, during the enroute phase anyway. Our plane hasn’t been approved for GPS approach and landings.
