Spec V Supercharger!

Ok guys I’m not sure if all of you have heard about the Supercharger that is in production for our cars, but I just thought I would do my part and spread the word into the NECC forum. Here is a link to download the most recent video of this sexy supercharger. Just think this is at 3.75psi, can’t wait to see 8psi on this thing.

Hopefully it makes a ton of power - I can’t really see how it won’t considering how good the airflow is through the QR25. I bet it’ll come down to the skinny connecting rods breaking again.

Not a chance Superchargers are so gradual that this will just bring out the QR25DE’s true potential, I mean look at Stephen’s Spec he has put over 7k on his Spec since he went boost and he is still running stock rods, and he has had no problems and Turbo’s are such a more powerful blast it’s like hit Nitrous- All or Nothing. I think that this S.C. is going to be amazing. I know what daddy wants for his little girl next summer :E A nice 10 psi pulley on that Super Charge, but hey maybe I would even settle for the 8psi, I guess we’ll just have to wait and see what happens with this.

Well I have about 20k kms on my stock block right now while being boosted. Tuning at elevation has been my only problem, the engine is still strong.

Turbo isn’t exactly like a Nitrous shot though… it does come on gradually… it has to build boost. It seems to happen quick but trust me, nitrous is quicker.

This kit is an exciting addition to the market, but I think most guys on the VBoard are missing one important fact and that’s that they think a S/C is a more economical choice vs a Turbo.

S/C vs. Turbo is merely a preference in what you want in performance, not a budget decision. If someone is looking for cheap ways to make big power, they’re in the wrong hobby. I’ll be very surprised if this S/C kit comes out to be cheaper than the Powertech Turbo Kit. Also, they even suggest that you use Powertech’s fuel system, so don’t forget to add that to the price when it does. Anyway, I’m curious to see as well what it does on the street and what it goes for when all is said and done… afterall, I gotta keep an eye on the competition.

I wish PTI’s kits were less expensive - I would love to buy a kit from Jamie but 5K is just a touch too much.

Not sure that the centrifugal S/C will be all that much better either for autox/road racing - as long as you get a fast spooling turbo for coming out of corners, you should be pretty OK.

Well now that I have a new engine in this bish I am definately looking into either a Turbo or a S/C I guess I have a lot of time to decide until next summer, just with all the money I have thrown into modding this bish NA the S/C seems like just a nice add on to all of the bolt ons, but yeah it’s too bad that all of us Spec V owners up here in Canuckistan can’t get a Special price on these boost kits. :prayer:

Yeah Kris I tried AutoX for the first time in my life a few weeks ago… ended up with the fasted time of the night on my 3rd run ever. I can’t speak for other turbos, but the GT2871R has practically zero lag – the alititude doesn’t help in calgary, but at sea level, it’s about as instantaneous as you’d want a turbo to be.

That’s what I’ve heard!

The only problem with turbos is that you don’t get the whine that you do from roots-style blowers, but it doesn’t seem that a lot of people have a problem with that one… :E

who needs a whine when you have a Woooooooooossssh-piiisssshhh!!

Meh - if the spec could generate the same sound as a supercharged mustang cobra, I’d go for that.

It doesn’t really matter anyway, the guy developing the S/C kit is putting a BOV on it anyway. So you’ll still get the psssh part, anyway.

I just wish they’d release some final numbers and a price for the kit. I’m just curious to see the lead times and cost involved… should be interesting.

Definately, that’s the main thing I am curious about, I mean if it is more economical to go Turbo (Since we don’t have to pay customs fees and such) I have always wanted a turbo, but I am really curious to see what the power gains and whatnot are on this very little modded spec and I think it would be much lower maintenance.

Plus after just getting a new engine by next summer it will just be finished being broken in so it would be the perfect time to go boost either way, and damn does my car feel A LOT stronger now.

Yeah mine feels pretty strong too. :E

Hmm what do you think it is making your engine stronger  :finga:

Stephen if lets say someone like myself or Kris were to buy a Turbo kit from PTi how hard would it be to convince you to help install the kit so we’re not spending over a G to get it installed, cause honestly I am really thinking about going boost not S/C, but as I said I’m just trying to weigh options over the winter.

looks like we might have a group buy for PTI kits. I too am thinking about it. maybe we could all get a deal or somthing. If it’s late winter i can maybe get us some shop space at apex while it’s dead.

damn you guys gettin turbos, i wish i could afford it! and i say do turbo over s/c

Yeah I’m waiting 'till spring to do mine, so yeah I dunno, I’ve gotta save up some money, I’ve got a couple of things in the works right now so yeah mine will be in the late winter/early spring. I’ve said bye to the S/C and am going with what I’ve always wanted good 'ol fashion Boost :partyman:
