Speedo problem + clock light not working on cluster

So I have been working on my s13 finally (sunshine yay), and I installed the impul speedo (0-260km/hr), however here’s the funny thing, when I turn on the car, it goes to 10km/hr (the first line) and sits there, when i turn off the car it goes to zero… sometimes it is just at zero. Twice it went up and I thought it started working… but it didn’t :frowning:

What could it be? My only posiitve thinking was that it could be some kind of resistor or capacitor that went out… but any ideas? It cost me quite a bundle to get… which sucks so yeah… only thing better is the nismo one 0-280km/hr but yea.

Secondly my cluster clock light doesn’t work… I replaced the bulb from another cluster I had but it seems that bulb doesn’t work either, when i shake the bulb its fine the whadja ma call it in english thing inside the bulb is not broken… whats up? It doesn’t look dark/black or anything for that matter… any ideas? I’ll try another bulb again when I take it out I guess.

So yeah… please help

does the speedo work when you drive?

you may have to reclock the needle…

and for the clock, check the fuse.

no it doesn’t, its just stuck at 10km/hr, however it did twice move, and then it fell back down… and another time i think today i forget, it went up to 80km/hr then stopped at that, and went back down… What do you mean by reclock the needle?

Oh I didn’t know the clock had a fuse… the clock itself functions, just the light of it doesn’t (and it’s very useful at night or any time for that matter to know the time while I’m driving).

oh, sorry i didnt realize it was the light only.

it may be a loose or broken connection on the printed circuit board.
try other bulbs and see what else.

as far as the speedo… it may be a loose connection in the printed board or inside the unit itself. tough to say.
id say double check by making sure a stock speedo works perfect… and if it does, then the impul unit might be fucked.

yeah the stock works, so its not the speed sensor as far as i know… the stock stopped working when i broke it (i was a retard and wanted to paint the needle redish to be more visible… bad move on my part i learned my lesson). That speedo was a jdm 180 speedo… it worked before i broke it. The USDM 180 speedo i had was broken when i bought the car… thats the history behind it all. The reason I got this new speedo was as a fix and upgrade… but … 5 months after i bought it (as my life was very busy), i found out now its not quite functioning…

Well the rear of the speedo the board was slightly u could say… ‘rusty’… and there was some connection between two soldering points (just a naked wire) it was a bit rusty sort of too… I suppose that could have some reason in it…

This could be very well be the cause, i suppose i should clean it with alcohol?.. i kind of cleaned the dirt myself but it didn’t change anything… I still assume it is some kind of capacitor or something gone wrong…

hmm…

oh man, i’m having the same problem with my clock light haha…i have yet to take out the cluster n switch bulbs…
