Spent a week in vegas the week before last…
I’m 25, its my first time going there. My girlfriends third time. She was testing for a job with the LVPD.
We almost didn’t make it to her test on time. The testing hall was 7 miles from the hotel. I left the hotel 2 hours early to be “on the safe side”. They were very strict about being on time.
So I get on the freeway at like 630 in the morning, go about a mile, then hit total gridlock. The freeway ends up being closed for over 90 minutes, and we were stuck. I ended up driving on the shoulder, and cutting through some side streets to make it there, with like 2 minutes to spare.
Turns out a trucker had spilled grease all over the freeway, shutting it down, and causing a ton of accidents.
Anyways, back to the trip…
It was an absolute insane time.
80 degrees every single day, bright sunshine.
I booked a priceline car for 18 bucks a day, ended up with dollar rent a car. Ended up getting bumped to a pt cruiser convertible. Shitty car, but perfect to have a convertible to tool around in.
We stayed at the Tahiti Resort on Tropicana, a few blocks from the strip. Great location, great hawaii theme to it. Three heated pools with sand bottoms, tiki torches everywhere. Hardly anyone was in the pool. We are the only nutcases that swim in November I guess. Water was warmer than bathwater. Nice hotel, similar to having a studio condo for the week, not like a hotel at all.
Checked out the usual sights and sounds. All very cool stuff. I’m not a big gambler, I just played a few bucks in slots at most of the casinos. Ended up winning 90 bucks at the Paris casino, then giving it all back and then some along the way. Great fun though.
Lost my ass at Rivera on seedy slots, and they gave me a free fleece zip up shirt. Gotta love those seedy ass casinos. The rivera is THE tackiest place I have ever been in. Loved every minute of it.
My favorite non-super casino would be Bills Gamblin Hall. Real nice old vegas feel to it. 99 cent margaritas in plastic cups. 2 dollar coronas in bottles with limes at the door, and a semi decent 14 dollar prime rib special.
I wouldn’t stay in the hotel though, thats for sure.
We seen a hooker get busted right at the front door of Bill’s and I knew it would be a place to check out. Undercover cop was wearing shorts and a bermuda shirt, and he was cuffing her just as we were walking in.
We checked out the “Bite” show at stratosphere. A vegas show where topless vampire chics dance around and smack each other on the ass, etc. It was a pro dancing show, with acrobatics, and loud 70’s-90’s rock playing. Really professional show, we both enjoyed it a lot. I recommend it to everybody going out there, and its ok to take your lady also.
On the way back from bite we seen cops on mountain bikes driving through the lanes of traffic looking in every car window. I think they were just watching to make sure people weren’t drinking while they were driving the car.
Then I look up ahead, and they “pulled over” this dude in a Lamborghini murcialiago at the red light, and they are dragging his ass out of the car, and the one cop has his bike parked in front of the car, with LED’s and headlights all on it. Classic shit, I was laughing so hard.
Took a day trip through henderson, and green valley. Checked out Green Valley Ranch. The entire area of Green Valley is just amazing. Mile after mile of gated mansion communities.
Drove to Lake Mead, and took a look at the ever depleting “lake”. Still some awesome scenery, and a great trip in a convertible. The sunburn actually felt good in November.
Took a cruise to the Hoover Dam. Walked all around there. Didn’t take the tour, just wanted to walk around outside, and there is absolutely plenty to see. One of those things where if you see it once in your life, thats probably enough. Still a lot of nice sights. You can walk right over into Arizona, and cross over into the next timezone, that is one of the attractions, lol.
The next day we went to Red Rock Canyon. Drove right by Red Rock Casino but didn’t go in, looked very nice though. Drove right through summerlin all the way back down the strip to tropicana where we were staying.
Google directions on your phone is a must if you go out cruising around. It saved my ass about a dozen times.
Took a cruise out to Primm to the factory outlet mall, near the CA border. I guess this is the older more run down outlet mall, but it blows away the Niagara Falls one.
When we got back to buffalo it was 38 degrees, and that really sucks.
Good to be back though. Vegas is a fun town to visit, but I wouldn’t want to live there (unless a great job op dropped in my lap).
