So I'm going to vegas next week....

Work is sending me out to Vegas next week for Autodesk University. Sunday night through Friday afternoon. Never been there, never been anywhere further west than Michigan actually.

Where are the recommended go to places while I’m out there? My neighbor says check out Fremont street. I plan to check out the belagio fountains and the shark reef aquarium. After that, no idea.

Matters how much you want to spend but I did a helicopter tour of the grand canyon, hover dam and vegas at night. We landed in the canyon and walked around for a bit as well.

Grand canyon and hoover dam are definitely places to check out aside from that I don’t really know it was about 10 years ago the last time I was out there and cant wait to get back!

You might want to try the Hoover Dam tour instead. I enjoyed it when I was there. There’s a ton of stuff going on down the main strip. Fremont Street is what most people refer to as “old Vegas” and had a lot of the original casinos. I’m sure things have changed a ton since I was last there. Obviously it’s not going to be as hot as it is in the summer so the pools are out. If you’re a gambler, it’s the “holy land”. Always something to do / see. Pretty good amount of general transportation but bring comfortable shoes for sure. It’s hard to tell you what you should see in a town as big as Vegas.

Just walking around and checking out all the Casinos on the strip will probably take day.

Old Vegas is cool

There is a brewery bar type place in the main street station on fremont street.

Called Triple 7 brewery. One of my favorite chill spots in vegas.

Ask the bar tender about the king arthur artifacts upstairs, you can walk up a flight of stairs and look at the royal pool table and the royal throne.

Pretty interesting after 7 pints of beer.

Also I like Aces and Ales.

I’ve been to Vegas so many times, I don’t really do the normal stuff. I have lots of friends who live there now, and we do more local type stuff.

If you need to do any clothing shopping, there is an outlet mall in Primm, Nevada which is not too far, it is right on the California border. When I lived in NY I would find that they always have warm clothes on sale for dirt cheap.

There are also a few shitty casinos in Primm like Buffalo Bill’s. A buddy of mine and I got shitfaced there at 2pm one weekday, and had to check into a $19 room and sleep it off for a few hours. Primm is in the middle of nowhere pretty much.

Go to Red Rock national park, and death valley. The exhibits are pretty nice, and it is a pretty good hike. There is a portion of Red Rock that you can just drive through if you don’t want to die of the heat. It is like a 30 minute drive, and there is a lot to see.

Driving to Grand Canyon is way to far, I did it once, and it was a long ride. I would not fly in a helicopter, but some people do it.

If you want to bang a hooker legally, you can go to Pahrump. We drove by there once and you basically get to rent a trailer in a trailer park and fuck a skank. Sounds interesting, but I passed.

I’m in Vegas now, in the airport headin back to buffalo.

fremont street is pretty cool, we stayed at the Mirage, everyday at the mirage there is a fake volcano that goes off, it’s a pretty cool free show(fire/water effects).

i drove a Lamborghini Gallardo for $100. Great experience, they even let you buy the memory stick from the gopro for $20 to have the recording. I’m goin to make a thread about it and post the vid when I get home.

The Grand Canyon is a 5hr drive so we didn’t do that. We did go hiking at redrock canyon, it was pretty cool.

the weather here was only mid 60’s. til today luckily I drove the lambo today

we went to segfried and Roy’s secret garden at te mirage, has lions and tigers it was pretty cool. It’s not a show but more like a zoo, also saw the dolphins - all at the mirage like $15

o’sheas is a casino near harrahs(also casino), osheas is like a Irish casino/bar has live bands.

Good restaurants: Carson kitchen (near Fremont)- got a cocoa espresso rubbed steak, also bacon jam app. Very good meal!
hash house a go go - in harrahs/linq/o’sheas casino(near within I guess) - big portions good food has breakfast.
cracked egg- off the strip but very good had breakfast.

there were more but those we remember…

Bad restaurants: Mesa grill- I got the scallops and it was a super tiny dinner but it was an entree not a appetizer so it was a disappointment.

casa de amore - supposed to be the best Italian restaurant in the area(but off the strip), none of us were blown away by their food. $10 up charge to switch the type of pasta.

too much walking lol

thanks for the input, grand canyon is too far for how much free time I have, but may make it to hoover dam. always appreciate input on where to eat.

wahoo, where did you go that it was $100 to rent the lambo?

It was on the strip next to fatburger across from the Monte Carlo, guys are in a small parking lot standing by the cars, Audi R8, Ferrari California, and the Gallardo Spyder. I think the name was dream rides or something like that.

To drive the lambo someone goes with you, but I still got to floor it like twice and downshift and rev it out, sounds amazing when it rev matches downshifting (E-Gear). You drive it up the strip which is a lot of stop and go traffic but its great with the top off and the gallardo had aftermarket exhaust(sounds awesome and is loud). Then take it on the highway for about 5min , i downshifted and floored it, only went to like 80/85mph then slowed back down. He highway takes you about the length of the strip a little longer, takes you back around looping you back on to the strip to drive stop and go again and that’s basically it, about 35min cruise. Well worth it IMO!

the cars were there everyday, I don’t think at night though, gets dark about 5:00pm by the way.

Nasty roller coaster at Buffalo Bob’s in Primm. Might be a tad chilly for that but definitely gets the rears running in the eyeballs.

Nothing can recreate the awesomeness of the old o’sheas…nothing like playing blackjack and ordering Burger King to your table…they used to have buy 1 get 2 free drink coupons on 4square.

I’ve been to autodesk u…expect most of your fellow attendees to be hitting up the strip clubs and gambling…I’d recommend sapphire if that is your thing.

Get a a good steak somewhere, lots of good options out there.

the pools won’t be going, but that is the best place to find single deck blackjack and make some money.

I went a couple years ago. Fremont street kinda blows (it’s pretty run down) and it’s really sketchy at night. The Bellagio fountains were cool. Check out Red Rock Canyon if you can.

Take a drive the wrong way two blocks behind Fremont street, it is one of the worst ghettos I have ever seen in America.

if you are in to thai food go to Lotus of Siam. it’s off the strip and said to be the best thai food in the world outside of Bankok.

when i was there Anthony Bourdain was filming 3 tables away from me:

if you’re into window shopping the crystal shoppes and grand canal shops have some of the best in the world. total unobtanium for watches, clothing, books, art and more. Richard Mille has a boutique in the crystal shops where the entry price is $70,000 (for a watch, not to walk in). there is a rare book store in the grand canal shops that has some wacky stuff for tens of thousands of dollars as well.

vegas has a handful of Michelin rated restaurants on the strip and the various hotels… if you want to spend $200 a head give one a try

There is also a Ferrari museum in the Wynn.

$200 per? yeah fuck that.

I went to fatburger. Always heard about em in ice cube movies…never been. Not bad.

Missed the ferrari museum. Didnt get to drive an exotic, they weren’t open when I had time.

Autodesk University conference was cool. Reception party was super hero/comic book themed. Weird. Did some titanic exhibit thing and the shark reef. hit up a few restaurants and checked out fremont street. walked the strip. checked out belagio fountains. +10 bucks at the casino. Gotta be the plastic surgery capital of the world. Really not enough time to get out to do everything I wanted to. Will most likely go back again.

People drinking and gambling at casinos at 730am. Legit bug eyed zombies.

oh yea, they had this guy in the conference exhibit hall, as well as a driveable car that the entire body/chassis was made on a 3d printer.

3D printed cars are going to awesome. Design it yourself, add LS1 and drive

I’m going late January. Save you a seat. And yes, I will be bug eyed …and a zombie.

Vegas is weird for me. It’s just 8-10 hour drinking sessions, followed by a couple hours of random sleep, then start up again drinking.

After about three days of this, I am ready to go home and just sit in my dark bedroom for a week.

It’s not that bad lol

I spent 10-12 days straight there a year
