sr water pump issue

Hello All
I just pulled out the old water pump from my car today and this is what I discovered.
Does anyone know what can cause this, I seen water pump go before but never like this, this one went with a bang.

I just though it was a interesting picture to show you guys.

**** No I didnt drop it , water pump came on my SR and I had it running for a bit under a year now, it was my first time pulling it out ****

i think it might have seized before cracking…not sure though

To much water and it froze cracking the cast then it just let go… or what varun said would be my two guesses.

I drove for over an hour before that happen and I can tell you guys that I had some pretty nice heat in the car.
Very strange, just another freak of nature.

im sorry but all i can do is laugh…

not sure for sure. but for it to crack like that it would of needed to get really cold then really hot or vice versa. the whole rapid expansion and reversion thing.

put a beer in the freezer for a few days then put it in on your counter and watch for an example;)

im gunna agree with dustin

too much water

gusy who run straight water as opose to coolant have to start the motors every so often in cold temps to keep the block from cracking if im not mistaken

just my two cents

thats nutz tho

belt too tight… cause too much axial load…

I think TONY is bad luck…Was he ever near your waterpump???

At least it wont’ cost you $5K.

I should really see if he wants to get rid of that 86.

jb weld.

Wow that is awsome, how much anti-freeze are you actually running? I can also beleve that it had just seized before hand and the energy had to go somewhere.
