Ever since I got it, it will not start when it is hot, I have changed the plugs and the temp sensor but it still does it. I think it might the idle air control valve but am not sure. Any ideas?
Its 97 S13 SR.

start fro square 1 and re time it.
you really think its that, it starts right away when its cold and idles fine and pulls hard, people have also been telling me a leaky injector maybe.
In order for it to start when its hot is by unplugging the injectors, cranking it till all the fuel is burned up and then plugging the injectors back in and it starts, It basically floods when its hot because the injectors are soaked in fuel when I take them out.
if ur injectors are soaked when u turn ur car off its obvouisly running really rich and u need to do some tuning…it wont start when its warm because the engine is flooded. when its cold all the fuels evaporated by the next time u start it, so there for it will start
not true at all, cold start enrichment is about 4.0:1 not the 14.7:1 that stoichometric is.
Like is said, start from square 1, eleiminate all possibilities and you will find the problem
You’re injectors shouldnt be a problem unless they are stuck open.
If you feel so striongly about it, pull them out and have them flowed and cleaned at an injector place,
as a cheap hack you could wire in a cold start injector you activate by switch, it just needs to pulse a little extra fuel into the intake so ideally you’ll use some kind of pulse generator to run it…
but as a cheap hack on a cheap hack you could just use the absolute smallest injector like 50cc or something and have it wired directly to the switch where it will be opened constantly until switched off…
Alot of SRs have this problem. There are 2 ways to solve it.
Floor the throttle (allows air into the motor to lean out the gas) and crank for 5-10 seconds… it will usually start depending how bad the problem is.
Get out of the car, pop the hood, unplug the injector harnesses from each injector, get back in car, crank, it will start and quickly die. Get back out, plug injectors back in, close hood, get back in car and start it again with throttle floored.
If you have to do the second one alot you can wire a switch which kills the injectors, then you won’t have to get out of the car.
I have this problem on really hot days when I’ve already driven the car, but number 1 works for me.
my ka did this when the coolant temp sensor for the ecu came unpluged on the harness, plug it back in and no problems
it basically is getting no reading so it goes through the cold start enrichment and thus flooding your cylinders
Thanks for the tips guys, ya when its hot and I floor it to start it does start but only sometimes, even when I unplug the injectors a couple of times it still doesnt start till its cooled down.
Im thinking of running a kill switch to the fuel pump so i dont have to unplug the injectors.
I’ve already replaced my temp sensor (the one under the intake mani, facing forward with the ground beside it) but there is another temp sensor im guessing for the gauge but I dont know where that is located. Is that worth replacing?
Also im running a S14 T28 at 12psi with stock ecu and injectors and my air/fuel gauge does show rich, when im in boost it almost shows full rich on the gauge, but I guess thats normal.
Yes thats very normal and not a cause of your problems.
