SR20DET Question

I am planning on getting a 1993 240SX … i know it is possible to swap a s15 SR20DET engine into it but would it be as straight forward as the S13 swap? Also, one of my friends told me that hte S13 SR20DET has more potential for power… is this true?

introduction done … and yes i have searched for the last two days … searched S15 Swap, SR20DET S15 swap bla bla bla and have been looking for hte last two days and found nothing. that is why i asked…

well ill give you a coupple quick things, someone els will for sure go deep.

S15 Sr tranny is a no, and there are other things that my brain does not feel like working on,

get a ncie blacktop or a raelyl nice redtop and save the money, you can get a nice redtop and get it rebuilt for about the same price as a S15 Motor

why do you want an S15 motor?

its OBD2 and your car is OBD1… not even sure how much of a hassle that will be but you need to take it into consideration.

you’ll pay double the money for basically nothing, if its that extra 30 horses or so that you want just put all that extra money into modding a redtop or S13 blacktop.

how about a S14 SR20DET. And what if i swap an automatic KA to a 5spd SR20DET … will that make a difference?

S14 SR is also OBD2, same complexity for an entire 10 horses!

your best bet is to grab a red top SR out of a 180sx and it will pop right into your car…

get on the boards and read up, make an educated decision. Dont just toss random shot in the dark ideas up until people back them up for you. Get a good idea of the differences between all the SR’s are and make a choice based on what is best for you.

it doesnt matter if its OBD II or I get that KA shit out of your head. The only real advntage to getting an S14 SR is you get a T28 with it and VTC is sorta cool.

yeah i have read up about them, know about the different turbos and horsepower differences but thats it. i wanna know go with the SR because of all the available parts for it. i plan for this car to be the first car i work on and probably the last one (unless i magicly start making 100G a year and buy myself a RX7 lol). ill continue reading, and im planning to swap the engine myself, i know someone that has swaped engines in poland for a living. thanks a lot.

The money that you have to pay in difference for an S15 from an S13. I’d rather spend the money on an S13, and the money I saved, upgrade the turbo and internals, and your laughing. You have a much better setup. Same engine, better parts.
