ssautochrome turbos good?

I remember posting about SS and XS turbos a while back. Everyone said the same thing as they are saying now but no one has experience with the turbos. I was seriously considering buying one of these but I just got a factory SR turbo instead. Anyways, the only person I know that runs a SSAC turbo is Phil (S14_2NV). He has it on his KA-T and has had no problems with it as far as I know. His car makes big power and is driven hard too. You should try talking to him.

Phil is using an SSAC turbo?

as mentioned i do know other people using SSAC kits with no luck.

If I remember correctly. Its a XS turbo which is the same thing.

From what I’ve heard (not really cedible, but makes more sense) is that the SS turbos, XS turbos and OBX turbos are garbage. Some people have had good results, some haven’t.

I wouldn’t blame a turbo for blowing up a bunch of engines. To me that sounds like a working turbo and problems somewhere else.

These turbos in question are supposedly made in China.

There is some discrepancy though, I’ve seen Master Power lumped into the same category and that I have to disagree with. Master Power are Brazilian made Garrett copies and they are made in Brazil for the general public and they even supply OEM replacements for most of South America.

There are also rumors that the SSAC, OBX and other turbos are made by two guys that left Garrett, but I’m 99.9% sure that’s just crap made up by the eBay seller.

It turns out, if we’re to believe what SSAC has to say

their turbos are made in Scotland, and the crappy eBay ones were knocked off in China. Apparently just looking at them is enough to tell the difference.

What I find strange is apparently SSAC, Megan and a bunch of other manifolds are all made by Mang (Meng?) Headers in China. But only the SSAC ones seem to have problems.

Then again, it also begs the question, when you sell stuff this cheap, you attract the lowest common denominator of tuner. A ton of people fuck their own shit up then run and blame the manufacturer.

A lot of people that complain have probably never held a name brand piece in their hand. I’ve seen GReddy IC kits that don’t fit the car they’re supposed to, look like they’ve been welded by a poorly trained monkey.

Hell, you rarely see links to stuff like this … http://www.tunerfriends.com/forums/showthread.php?t=561

But it’s funny, look at how many posts are “Oh yeah, GReddy is crap, I ordered blah blah blah”

Usually because those that fork out thousands for a part are reluctant to admit that it ended up being crap.

pics from 240sxforums.com… user who actually got a turbo to open it and prove their glued together or what not.

Yeah,

If we’re to believe what SSAC said, their turbos are 1 piece, the knock offs are 2. That’s the thing people don’t seem to get about counterfeits, they are copies. It’s not going to say FAKE XS POWER on it.

Go to the Pacific Mall, they have Bride seats that aren’t Brides for nice and cheap. If that seat falls apart and kills someone, are we going to say “DON’T BUY BRIDE!!”?

this origionally came from honda-tech and the guy had the kit on his civic and drove down the block and the turbo gernaded and when he got home he found the housing cracked. nobody bought the turbo and purposly opened it up…

im still kinda skeptical with this. its like how gamblers only tell u when they win money but dont mention anything when they lose… so u think everyones winnign money n shit… this is one bad turbo… im sure they sell tons. its just the one bad apple that we hear about. consumer reports should run some tests and publish some results hehe.
