SSDragon's updated project pics...

if you were a hot chick I’d be nice…but

do not turbo your daily, especially with a kit that is just being released! your going to be the guinea pig no matter how much they say they tested it.

also what’s your compression situation? NA cobalt has to have a huge comp ratio to be making 170 whp. my guess is over 10:1. that is definitely not boost friendly with stock heads/cam etc. all it takes is one time, you lean out and bam. unless your a seasoned tuner I wouldn’t touch that setup with a 10 foot pole.

the solstice has the same engine with same turbo setup with no problems.

regardless of what you post, people are going to disagree. if you post that the sky is blue, there will be someone, without a doubt, who argues with you at some point.

My whole point—do what you want. as Domination said, you are getting a good deal for what you want—plain and simple.

the shy is a light shade of gray today, not blue :moon:

it’s your car and your money, but the members here have bought the premade kits, and have also made custom ones that worked out a lot better. If you can learn from some of the mistakes people have already made, you’ll be much better off.

good luck

very true. unfortunately the kits have a lot of inferior parts that end up getting changed or upgraded anyways. there are just steps that end up costing more money in the long run. The kits are nice because you know hte exact price but the nickel and dime stuff is what kills everybody. Good luck in with your car. i am def interested in seeing a turboed cobalt. i know the kit was supposed to be out a few months ago already. hopefully it all goes well. even if you get the kit let everyone know how it goes and if you run into any prob we are still willing to help.

I have to admit, that made me laugh :bigthumb:

ya. the big name turbo kits are a lot of money, and you dont get the big numbers that a custom kit will.
BUT, they go together with 0 issues and are much better for DD applications IMO.
i know the greddy kit for the rsx goes on in a day and drove fine for atleast 20,000 miles with a fairly aggressive driver / poor car maintainer in control of it.
ya, you pay for that reliablility, and you sacrifice the higher power of a custom kit. but if you have the money, its not as bad a choice as you guys are making it out to be.

as far as the site sponsor stuff, i thought the rules were you werent supposed to advertise a non-sponsor shop unless you were asked.

burnyd asked, it was answered. seems legal to me :dunno:

well i will let you guys know whats up when i get the kit in, it will hopefully now be out in janurary from what hahn told me yesterday. they keep pushing the release back while they are still tweaking the prototype car that has had the kit installed for about 6 months.

look what just came out. what do you guys think of this?

I think you should buy a gt2871 go with more fuel and have a shop here make you a manifold and downpipe… but hey what do I or anyone else know who have been telling you this?

turbo on yet?

not on yet unfortunatley since hahn racecraft is dragging their ass on the release of the 2.4 liter kit, they went to the stupid twin charge kit for the 2.0 cobalt 1st. garrett is only supporting the 2.2 with this kit but it would bolt to my 2.4 with different tuning. the ecotec block is the same for all 3 motors with different internals so any kit that comes out i can use for the most part. as far as getting a few hard parts and going custom i would but i would need a shop that can do it in 3 days max, make it look very professional like powdercoating or polishing the pipes. and dyno tuning the tcm and ecm to fine tune it for less price than buying a kit. i dont think any shop around here would be up to that challenge so thats why i dont go that route. plus custom kits are more for huge hp gains when i cant make more than 250 wtq due to that being the tranny’s breaking point until i have the time and money to upgrade that which wont be for a while.

I would wait until you can do exactly what you want along with the supporting mods that need done instead of going halfway. Do the supporting mods first to make it bulletproof and then pay a local shop do build you exactly what you want.

:stupid:

i would be fine with 250 at the wheels so its no big deal really, ill probably shift my attention to the suspension after this anyway

you said that 250 was pretty much the breaking point for the tranny. You may want to upgrade that if it’s your daily driver. I wouldn’t want to see someone dump tons of money into a kit only to be stuck without that car because another part couldn’t handle the new power, especially if it was a daily driver.

well i might put a 2nd tranny cooler on it if temps get too high but ill have to see after the tranny gets tuned adn the engine gets tuned

funny building a turbo satrun ion redline right now and this came up lol
full custom kit built in house.

I think its great that your modifying your car and doing so much research so its done correctly. The one thing though is the new knowledge you acquire usually leads to forming your own, new opinions of what you want and need to accomplish your goals.

My friend bought a queer ass orange cobalt ss n/a a few months back. I drove his car all the way to Myrtle beach last august so thats 600+ miles of experience in one. My opinion, the car is fully loaded and makes a great daily driver. It has some power, handles well and was overall fairly solid.

However, I would not, in a million years, try to tune that car. I hated the disconnected feeling you get when you drive that car. I was not able to feel the traction of the tires, the road through the steering or the acceleration when you hit the pedal. It almost felt like i was playing a video game instead of driving a car. I mean maybe its just me because i drive a car that you can feel every little aspect of.

I don’t know though, I think there are better options available if you want a fun car to drive.

wonder where this is at now?
