Dan, I have an Acoustic Guitar that needs to be tuned. How much do you charge for that?
i voted AEM, but PFC was more logical for me and my needs.
im bored so as a side project and possibly used for my TR project im going to attempt to build my own ECU. Anyone think this is impossible for me to do? state ur case. I mean not mega squirt stuff. like from scratch board… i figure i can benfit from improved I/0, signal conditioning, open/closed loop, and a bunch of other cool features that AEM offers and at the same time its for school. I’m jsut conserned about clock rate and weather or not i can aquire the hardware for a reasonable price to meet the demand of the car
bahahah - classic Mark comment!
Dan I’ll be renting dyno time from you when my FC is running sometime next year. Then you can add megasquirt to your list
Tuning is honestly mostly the same in my opinion. You have 3d chart with VE plotted against rpm and map for fuel. For ignition, advance plotted against rpm and map. You can even dial in a third chart for AFR correction on fuel using the wide band O2. The only hard thing I ever found was tuning the accel. enrichments using TPS readings so that throttle response was crisp.
Andrew.
Like I said on my street car the PFC does everything I need, I like my drag times to be as “Aid-less” as possible, pure street car style. Although for my next project both options will be a must which is why I voted AEM for the next round!
This gauge, its a single gauge with the ability to monitor only ONE thing real time correct? Or am I mistaken? I watch as many channels as I want real time currently on my PFC with a very decent response time and sample frequency. I’m also not too keen on an AIM dash for my street ride. Again on the next project this is a definite option though.
I really need to take that old T25 drag time outa my sig…
aem ems is the way to go no dickn around with wiring etc.
had no problem with it on my buddies turbo’d k20.
Well, it displays one channel at a time but the gauge is WATCHING up to 19 channels for you. The reason why I think it is powerful is because although you are watching AFR, if any of your other channels go outside of range or meet any defined scenario you define, the gauge switches to that channel and flashes you a warning. Your commander does not do that.
So, imagine you’re cruising along watching Boost. You tip into the throttle and boost begins to build. What you don’t know though is that your fuel pump is taking a crap and as boost builds your car begins to lean out. You AEM Serial Guages has a defined warning that says if boost pressure is over 3 psi and AFR is leaner than 13, flash off a warning. Your motor is saved.
OR how about the same situation, your fuel pump is fine now but you’ve just filled up and you didn’t know the tard at the gas station filled the Ultra 94 tank with 91 octane. Although you’re watching AFR, as you tip into boost you knock #1 threshold, which is set to flash at 0.25 volts fires off…saving your motor.
It doesn’t matter what you are looking at, the Serial guage is watching it all and will tell you what’s up if the sh1t goes down.
Now that is cool… How much do you charge to tune an AEM, and what does that cost include? (Curious, and I’m sure others are, plus I don’t mind helping you pimp your business)
PM me if you don’t feel like listing it publicly on here for any reason.
Last summer my AEM tunes were $500 flat. This includes my time and dyno time with AFR and Boost logging on the dyno. This summer that price may increase but I’m also thinking about doing unit/tuning discounts/packages
My basic tunes are depandant on what is setup in the car but could include, in no order:
- Ensure .cal file settings are correct for injector, MAF, MAP and other sensors
- Set TPS values
- Synch base timing
- complete fuel cell tuning. Typically, I leverage a hybrid boost compensation strategy and tune all vaccuum cells steady-state and let boost comp take care of the + psig areas of the map
- complete igntion timing cell tuning. Again, steady-state vaccuum and safe boost cells. Slowly ramp after that.
- calibrate knock sensor sensitivity and define knock strategies
- complete idle tune, including timing and fuel comp tables
- tune and set vtec crossover points (if required)
- tune warm up settings (with after tune support to perfect)
- Adjust tip-in and decel maps if required.
- Define AFR Target table(s) and define auto correct.
- Define 2-step if required
- Define and tune boost wastegate duty cycle tables.
- Tune boost based on customer selected boost strategy. Typically it is VSS based or Switched
- Tune Boost correction tables
Extra: Secondary maps for Nitrous, Meth Injection or Race Gas. Additional wiring for switched circuits or additonal features.
That actually seems like a more than decent price to me… Thanks for the info dude.
That is a lot of work there…and could go way wrong if you don’t know what you’re doing… There is noone around that will do all of that WITH dyno time for $500
HAHA @ Motec option
who on here can afford that?
I wish.
None of your Windsor duders gonna run M800’s this season? haha
Now this I did not know… very nice! I still enjoy my realtime numbers, graphs and what not of my PFC w/ datalogit but this is a tantalizing option now!
Amazing price on the AEM tune too. That’s out of this world! I spent a whole summer teaching myself how to tune my PFC for all the things you listed on a butt dyno no less. Great value… I think I may skip the initial learning curve on the AEM next go round and just opt. for you to do it. Depends if I can convince myself to not do something hands on for once.
Well remember, he’s still tuning it to your tastes, so you still have some input, and I’m sure you can learn tons just watching, so you have the ability to tweak and change on your own afterwards.
I think I know who I’m going to for my AEM tune.
Pat is still runing the MS. I was running the car last night and playing with the Accel enrichments.
yeah bobby just told me pat left it in… i remember pat saying he was taking it off then running over to the car to do it… but i didnt hang around.
I would like to one day in the future. But its way out of my budget right now. AEM will do for now.
well, who else has their new crap. I do!!
