VA is the only one you will be going through.
And Remember… 20mph over the limit is Reckless in VA. No matter what. Also never go over 80mph unless you want to go to jail.
Truth. A few years ago, a friend of mine spent 3 days in a VA jail for 24 over on I-81.
I’ve used my V1 a few times going through VA. I just lay it flat on the dash so they can’t see it at a glance.
Bad plan. The Spectre model VA police use WILL detect your V1.
From V1’s own site…
Recently, we’ve been hearing of another radar-detector detector, the Spectre RDD. Used first in Canada, enforcers of detector bans in Virginia and Washington, DC, and the nationwide ban in heavy trucks, surely have this tool on their must-have list. It claims to have been designed specifically “to detect the latest state of the art stealth-type radar warning receivers.” Does it find V1? Very likely, according to reports we’ve been hearing from a few V1 users. One participant in an internet chat room, who claimed to be a Canadian enforcer, said “I’ve snagged a Valentine 1 already.” We’ve been unable to acquire a Spectre RDD for testing. Until we can do so, be advised that no super-heterodyne receiver is perfectly undetectable, and that includes V1.
not speeding is also cool.
5 over is fine almost everywhere, just dont bitch when you get nicked for it. Set the cruise at 4mph over and enjoy the road.
I think you’re in the wrong place. You’re looking for AARP’s forum.
I always do 5 over, very rarely anything more. Why would you speed when you’re on a road you’re unfamiliar with?
Theres a time and a place to be an asshole, major highways is not it. Farm country roads maybe, reservation where there no speed limit, surely. The track?!?! ofcourse.
its not even that, I’d rather not pay for points and raised insurance ect. Not to mention someone taking you out at 80mph is gonna suck alot worse than 60 mph.
I averaged 90+ in VA, youll be fine
Interesting. Good to know. I did travel thru VA on a couple round trips to SC back in June and January. I went by quite a few speed traps without incident. Lucky or the new detector isn’t wide-spread yet.
I always do at least 5 over, very rarely anything less.
Seriously though I do about 15 over almost everywhere I drive in Texas. VA Sucks
45 I do 49. 55 I do 63. 65 I do 72.
Except out of state tickets dont count towards points. Really? Driving 10 over on a highway is not being a asshole. I often have to do 15+ to stay with traffic.Maybe you should get out of the country more
Karter strikes me as the type of idiot in the left lane doing 70mph who gives ME the finger for coming up behind him at 80+ and then proceeds to sit in the left lane pacing traffic at 65.
Either do 69 everywhere and enjoy the road.
Or.
Do 88mph and…well you get the picture.
LOL Funny because I do the same thing… almost (+/-1mph)
Anyone ever got a ticket on the toll portion of the thruway?
Or even the mainline.
What do you have to do to get a ticket?
I’ve gone by cops with cruise @ 73 (in the 65 toll portion) with people hauling ass past me, and cops don’t bother them.
I drive 84 miles thruway everyday, so it happens a few times a week at least (saw 5 troopers on my way home today alone… highly unusual!)
Are they just looking for idiots swerving in and out of traffic? Or people doing 25+?
takes longer to get pulled over and pay money to be in a hurry. Never seen someone pulled out of a crowd of cars (everyone else was speeding too officer) dosent matter to them, they picked you. Its assanine, and the idiots who get tickets, deserve them.
You do know the left lane is the passing lane right? its not the go faster lane. Lol How am I younger than most of the people on the site, but yet more educated in the rules of the road? This is probabaly why In my many years of driving I’ve never been cited for anything let alone a moving violation. Tho some vehicle related stuff such as loud death exhaust on my hot rod and it being the wrong color as it was in primer, could have netted me some tickets.
i do the same thing as lowlyoilburner
However it pisses me off when im in the left lane, doing lets say like 76 in a 65, and there is always THAT guy who HAS to pass you and is doing like 85. It’s usually someone in a fggt car like a camry or something. if its a cool or nice car i usually let them pass me lol.
If I’m passing people in the left lane, you’re not passing me. That’s my rule of thumb.
Me > You
