Steve Downie's hit

Mark, the only time you get hit on is when a SON member wants a ride in your car.

It’s still a cheap shot especially since they are trying to crack down on head hits on the OHMA/GTHL. You can’t see from that angle if its charging or elbowing but both should be taken into consideration. Ya roughing is for the leaving his feet and the high hit.

FYI I’ve played A, AA and AAA rep hockey.

no you didnt. downie is a 24 year old trying to make a name for himself. all macammound remembers is sitting down on teh bench for the 2nd period and than laying on a bed in a hospital.

the puck was off his stick - hit after the play.

left his feet and used his SHOULDER to hit the man’s FACE.

cal, if you ever hit someone harder than that in hockey, i sincerly hope you got ejected from whatever league it was in. this was totally uncalled for. macammond was just saying hte doctors told me this happened and this is whats going on…he has no clue as to what really went on.

the kid should get kicked for this year without his pay check. when he comes back it would be cool to see if he ever tried it again, considering it was so clean and all…

No no penalty there you are allowed to hit someone after he passes the puck. The time limit is only a few seconds and I do believe personally that this hit was within that time frame. I’m just ticked at the hit to the head and the possible elbow.

Charing; I take back my statement it is clearly 3 steps before the intended hit.

Elbow; I need a diffrent angle

Roughing/Hitting to the head; No change in my statement.

Oh ya, to those who wonder he got 20 games…

That’s nice, I played Junior A (North York Rangers) and have 2 GTHL City Championship Rings (Vaughan Panthers). Granted this was a long time ago.

Howevever, head hunting…OK, I can see that, but that is contoversial due to their size and how he was lined up. Mcammond was crouching, Downie was fully erect, when the hit was made. It’s not his fault that the guys head happened to be at the height of his shoulder.

But then again, I am not a fan of the new officiating rules in the NHL. It’s all BS, and not slightly consistent. One of the reasons why I stopped watching hockey for a couple of years.

By the way, on somewhat of a tangent, EuroM3, do you still play? I’ve been wanting to get into a man’s/beer league to get back in shape. Do you know of anything going on? I haven’t hit the ice in about a year, and that was only shinny.

I always hated those panthers:mad:

The rules have changed a lot man trust me. I am a big guy myself pushing 6,2" now and I know all about size discrimination. I personally believe this hit was just BARELY illegal. I don’t think he deserved 20 games like I mentioned 5 games at most. The factors like I mentioned are still you see he left the ice to literally throw himself into the guy, to the guys head for that matter is the main reason I see it being illegal

I sadly just finished playing Midget hockey and now the choice is go Juvenile AAA or Jr.A. I don’t personally think I would be serious enough for Jr.A(been told many times to try out by coaches). Juve is meh not worth it IMO, to much ice time conflicting with work and etc. The only time I get ice is with my youngers brother practices, I go on to help out.

P.S Seen the prices of Skates and sticks now a days, holy christ man like wtf?! $1000 skates and $400 sticks?! I’m carving my own stick for shiny.

The year I quit I had just bought new skates which were close to 1000 at the time (3-4 years ago), so they are still pretty much new. But sticks…don’t even get me started, i just switched from my Montreal woodies to comp last year…lol

haha lucky no joke I was playing AA minor midget hockey with $100 nike skates. I honestly couldnt take it anymore and just bought Easton’s for like $300 ish. We should get a SON240 hockey game going…to bad like 3 ppl here probably play any puck what so ever.

Yeah I think we tried something a couple of years ago, but nothing materliaized.

I used to play for the Raiders (aaa) and one year i was at a hockey camp at the same time as steve downie. The kid was a lunatic back then and he still is now. Although technically the hit could be considerd clean there was no doubt in my mind he was headhunting. I think hits like that are totally uncalled for.
If you wanna fuck someone up, drop the gloves, or even just hit someone open ice. hitting someone and throwing them into the boards like that is nothing but dangerous and casues serious damage ( I broke a kids femur one time with a hit sort of like that).
anywho, any team that lets steve downie play for them without keeping him on a tight leash is gunna have nothing but problems. I dont know if any of you remember when he attacked and beat up one of his teammates in london just becasue he was a “nig*er”. i can say from personal experiance this kid has some serious mental issues.

I’d be in for that but I don’t know how to skate. All I can say is that I’m very short tempered and will probably get into a lot of fights. So you guys better watch out. I’m as tough in real life as I am on SON.

Mark vs Hector would be a good one.

I was reading one of the comments from that ^^ and it seems like he’s a problem kid. I guess he’s just young and like brock said, wants to show off and make it big.

I guess you could say he was trying to get ahead of the game.

With the amount of SON members who take you seriously and wanna drop the gloves with you would make for little play much fighting.

Doesn’t matter if he had his head down. You can’t leave your feet and you can’t headhunt and you can’t raise your elbows. Period.

He did all three.

Hits a hit…but that could have been a career ending cheapshot. So pointless its fu$kin pre-season. Every player is condemning this lowlife.

Go SENS.

"I’ve been refereeing AAA hockey for 7 years now in Toronto, CANADA. Clearly all of us Canadians know that a head down is a target. This hit would have been perfectly legal had he simply just thrown the shoulder. There was no motion of his feet constitute to a charge. The elbow is a maybe and needs to be looked at further. However, the fact that he did leave his feat to hit the other player does constitute a charging penalty (in any league). On top of that, an injury as a result of the hit automatically gains a major. In my opinion, the hit should definately be penalized as attempt to injure. Downey clearly knew the speed at which he was travelling, and that the other player had no time to defend against this hit. All this leads to the conclusion of what the NHL commitee handing out the heafty suspension. "

If you can’t take the hit, get out of the kitchen. :o

The only hits I can take is the kind that’s from a bong.

hahahahaa

too bad i don’t blaze anymore, because id take u up on that.

it’d be funny to see you blitzed

Mark, asians dont like hockey… this thread has not happened.
