Sticks and stones may break my bones but names will get me 25 million

Yeah, I figured this stuff is fairly common amongst plant/factory workers. Usually it’s just banter back and forth between people and they joke around. If he asked for it to stop and it still didn’t the company is 100% liable. Personally I think the stuff is pretty funny, but a lot of people are too easily offended.

I see what you did there.

People are such babies now a day. i would be willing to bet they had pranks going back and fourth. After some time they got a little out of hand. Again i would be willing to say all parties involved at one point stepped over the lines with pranks. The clown is just the one who now is looking to make something off it.

I was called a “sucka ass white boy” the other day. I kind of though it was funny, dude was so worked up over nothing

I think I should sue Nabisco for all the times I’ve gone down the cracker aisle and felt abused & insulted.

LOL

I bet if you were the only white dude working in a place and every day you got shit about it, not gentle ribbing, but serious shit, you’d have a big issue with it. Don’t get me wrong, I think most people are fucking pussies… but a workplace is supposed to be a professional environment, and that shit is crossing the line. By miles.

^^This.

“It’s absolutely shocking that a case like this is in court in 2012,”

It’s shocking that something like this is in court wasting tax payer dollars period. Suck it up, buttercup.

Not sure who this was directed at…I’m hoping someone else. I’m not defending the racism at all, I did already cover that though.
The company clearly wasn’t doing themselves any favors, that’s for sure. “Professional” is matter of opinion to some degree, but this activity was clearly eating into productivity and creating a liability to boot. They should have taken action for sure.

they have to fine large companies big like this or they just ignore it.

It’s like the woman who got millions from the spilled coffee at mcdonalds, the jury figured something like a typical hour of profit for the corporation was fair.

She was awarded a couple million by the jury but the judge reduced it to under 500,000. Mcdonald’s and the woman also entered into a confidential agreement outside of court after trial so I’m sure she didn’t get millions.

She should have been refunded the cost of the coffee that’s it.

I see where you’re going with that but I don’t find the cases remotely comparable. You buy HOT coffee and spill it on yourself expect to be burned. Do they really need a friggin HOT logo on the cup to notify customers their HOT coffee will be HOT?
Anywooo…they are sitting on like $5 BILLION cash so I do see where you’re going with the comment.

It was a general response for the people who are saying “suck it up” but will likely never have to deal like anything like this ever in their entire life.

Why not a fucking huge blinking neon sign that says HOT, while we’re at it lol…jesus fuck. Common sense…it ain’t so common.

It’s just a little hazing…come on. On a serious note, I’m not defending racism either, and the whole noose hanging the monkey off of his mirror thing is quite fucked up (albeit a bit funny) - getting $25m out of it, like what was already said is a little extreme.

The typical reply from a white American when you bring up how privileged most whites are is both comical and insane. The utter denial of in-equality ensures we’ll be blindsided one day. Whitey is at or near becoming the “minority” in numbers although the crackers hold most the “wealth” for the moment.

The coffee thing was customer stupidity. This racism thing was much different, especially if the “jokes” were credible threats.

the coffee case was a lot more complex than people really know. It’s an interesting read:

“Morgan filed suit in New Mexico District Court accusing McDonald’s of “gross negligence” for selling coffee that was “unreasonably dangerous” and “defectively manufactured”.”
Kinda lost me right there…I mean cmon. She put the cup in between her legs to add sugar/cream and spilled the whole goddamn thing on herself. I guess she spilled the whole fucking cup because it was so hot? I mean how else could McDonalds be sued for their BMD (Beverage of mass destruction) unless it was hot enough to melt her brain causing the full spill?

I guess you didn’t read about the policy for the temp it was set at, the 3rd degree burns, and the previous complaints.

I read the whole thing, nothing negates personal accountability IMO. I have issues accepting regulation or legal/government interaction to justify the removal of personal accountability.
Was the spill brought on because the coffee was too hot or because the woman was elderly, clumsy and/or senile? Would the burn have been less severe at a lower temp…sure. Would she still have spilled the whole coffee on herself either way? I must suggest yes because the temp of the coffee wasn’t what caused her to spill in the first place.

it’s the same thing as slip and fall. if you warn your employer 50 times about a leak in the restroom and they ignore it and you then slip and fall is it your fault?

substitute for wobbly stair railing or whatever really…
