"Sticky" Caliper--> ABS light?

hey folks

this is a weird one but i gotta ask…my ABS light in the dashboard has been coming on every so often for the past while, usually when the roads are wet.

In fact, some of the times, you could say that it click on within about 3 seconds of hitting a big puddle, although sometimes its totally random and ive also noticed when i hit a fairly large bump sometimes it clicks on there too

okay okay, so the sensor is buggered right??

well…the last 3 or 4 days ive noticed that the ABS is kicking in when its not supposed to. Like stopping on bare pavement it will engage. According to the service manual, THAT is usually caused by the alignment being out, which is possible since my TC rod bushings are shot to heck although i had an alignment on the car not long ago. Lastly, once in a blue moon, i could swear the caliper is stuck cause ill hit the breaks and nothing happens for a split second then it engages all at once.

Could a problem with the caliper cause my ABS light to come on? Im sure they are in need of changing, ive owned this car (1993 SE) for 3 years and hadnt changed them

any ideas folks, if this has happened to you?

Hey man.

I don’t have ABS, thank god :lol: , but my Father and friends have and this is a common problem with it.

Yes the sensor is done and it’s tripping the brakes on you without you pressing the pedal.

So you have 2 choice’s,

  1. Pay a lot of money to fix a stupid sensor, and trust me it’s not cheap or,

  2. Pull the ABS fuse from the box in your engine bay. It’s a little 15 or 20 AMP one I believe. Now after that your ABS light will be on all the time but it won’t be working. Your brakes will still work normally though so don’t worry.
