I just did a nice long trip from Ottawa to Guelph and back again, and on the way their in my dad’s 92 trooper used about 2 full tanks. Once in guelph, we I noticed that the car was really lugging badly, so when we filled up the tank for the ride home, I grabbed a bottle of this stuff and put it in right after the gas. Well within 10 minutes of driving, I noticed a tremendous amount of pickup, and it accelerated like a dream. On top of that we made it home on one tank of gas…
Sometimes the simple things solve the biggest problems. The car now has better gas milage then when he got that car 8 (?) years ago.
Well it may seem costly, and/or a lot of work, but replacing them is always an option. If you went aftermarket then you could even use the Fuel Injector Cleaner afterwards. I’ve just never noticed such a drastic increase in power from such a miniscule thing as a dirty fuel injector. I notice the RB isn’t on that chart. Somebody just justified an engine swap!
ok, ur prob right philip. Any Idea how to clean them by hand. I’ve heard of this being done. Cause i’m thinkin after like 300,.000 km there not gonna be spraying properly. Or should i just stay right away from them alltogether.
Yeah it’s true that for Toyota, they hook up the injectors
with a bottle of cleaner and use air pressure to clean the injectors.
It’s kinda like purging the system.
It’s part of their maintenance routine if you go to a dealer.
However, not all cars can have this service. Honda for example,
doesn’t clean injectors because it causes more harm than good.
The chemical used to clean the injectors is too strong, thus resulting
in damaged injectors.
Just a warning about the fuel injector cleaners…I’ve worked with a couple engineers from Delphi and they were doing tests on the fuel injector cleaners on fuel injectors from Mazda, Nissan, BMW, MB, GM, Ford and Chrysler back in like 2001.
Every one they tested on showed negative effects. Usually eating of the plastic or corroding connections, etc.
The advice I got was go to a good reputable shop that does injector cleaning. The place i know of in Welland(can’t remember name, but know location) does it by using a soap that is very mild and it takes an hour for 4 or 6 cyl. engines. AFAIK they did forward and reverse flows, sitting the injectors in bath and I think used air pressure.
it may cost more, but is by far the best way to clean the injectors.
damn, I’ve used injector cleanor religiously since buying the car. I have 200k on the motor, and after everytime i used it, i notice my milage goes up about 60-100KM. Used every 10 000 KM, and I actually just finished a tank with it in it on Monday.
i will try and get a shop to clean them properly though, it does sound like a good investment.
I think I heard somewhere that there are no regulations when it comes to producing and selling fuel injector cleaner. So, this means that, basically, any company that produces fuel injector cleaner could p1$$ (am I allowed to say this?) in the bottle and there isn’t a thing anyone could do. Hmmm, gives me an idea…
