A door not latching isn’t a VW problem. My girlfriends Jeep does the same thing sometimes.
It happens to older cars of all makes.

Maybe for you
It was 115hp. I never expected it to be fast and that was not my complaint about it. It was just everything else. At what point is a car old enough for it to be acceptable for the door to not latch? I guess my car was bordering on that, but i still felt it was new enough that it should not have happened.
My “oh so reliable” '92 Toyota Camry, with 80k, had its fair share of issues going on too.
never had an issue like those with either of my 2 civics that were 13 and 14 years old.
Hm. If it’s the rubber seal itself I am told this works great:

The Gummi Phledge. I’ve been meaning to order some, because my door seals are kind of dry.
Ok I read the thread and this isn’t your problem. However, this may help for some.
come on now, even my 95 jimmy’s doors closed…and that was made by GM
That’s because everything fell off within the first two weeks.
earlier in december when it was colder, my driver side door sometimes wouldnt unlock. i had to open the back door and use all my force to pull up on the lock to unlock the car. it was a pain sometimes.
OMFG. how many times did you thank god your doors closed when you were replacing the transmission twice! holy crap pot calling the kettle black lol. you love to hate on VW but you sure didnt mind driving mine did ya?
I had to change my VW tranny twice in addition to the doors not closing!
Why?
I replaced the tranny once @ 120,000…
and we’re on the 2nd toureg, and northtown is going to buy that one back too if they can’t fix the stumbling problem it’s having off the line
oh i am def not saying that vw are better with trans. i am only saying that joe cant site his domestic jimmy like he did when doors closing would have been heaven.
i have had one trans in my vw replaced, but it was totally my fault. i destroyed the synchros shifting entirely too fast a while before i knew much of anything about cars.
for the most part though vw trans hold up pretty well as long as you dont expect them to shift as fast as an f1 sequential box
It seems like your parents would be happier with a Lexus RX400h, no?
naw, that thing is fucking uuugly
I’d be happier if they got a AWD luxo sedan
I like it. But only in white. It hides those ugly lights. Anyway, it’s built in the Canadian plant. Did you know the Camry and the ES330 are built in the same plant? The fit and finish is eerily similar–Lexus owners hate when you bring this up.
E350 4matic. Oh that’d be even worse. To VW’s credit, I don’t think they manufacture that transmission. Doesn’t VW/Audi, BMW, Jaguar, etc all use that ZF supplied 6 speed?
I current E-class…OMG
Because they broke…duh!
But seriously, the first one was probably slightly my fault. I was 16 when i got the car and beat on it a little and chipped a reverse gear. That was fixed and i babied the car after that. Then the first tranny blew up at 18k miles. The second tranny i was even nicer on but that one blew up at 36k miles. So each tranny lasted almost exactly 18k miles. My clutch out lasted my transmissions by ALOT! So im gonna say the answer to why is because VW doesn’t know how to build a tranny that can hold 115hp and 122 lb-ft of torque.
and thats a pretty bad explanantion…
