Subaru's STI Going Down Hill?

The JDM one looks exactly like the NA one. lol

They chose the hatchback version this year around because the WRC driver thought the hatchback version was stiffer, more agile and lighter then the sedan. They have to sell the same version that they race. It has nothing to do with looks.

Also, the new Evo will sell alot once Mitsubishi stops dicking around and sells a real 6 speed manual on the MR version. Right now only the GSR is available with a manual and it’s a 5 speed. The MR is only available with an automatic. (MR is the one with better brakes, better suspension, leather/suede seats, sunroof, navi, 10 speaker stereo, nicer spoiler, BBS wheels, the GSR has none of these.)

Also, F&F is not trying to ruin rally by using the STi, in F&F2, they used the Evo, they didn’t talk about rallying so that was just a dumbass comment.

Almost every damn car now does’nt match up to what it looked like in previous years…shame their doing that to the STI, evo on the other hand looks good more beast like than before looks like its on steroids now.lol

That makes sense to me though, the GSR has always been the Men’s Evo imo. The only thing I would want from the MR would be the brakes maybe since I’m too cheap to get a BBK, but aftermarket suspension is a given, so there’s no point in giving you the better stuff from factory.

Sorry no conventional 6-spd will happen because that so called automatic is infact a real 6spd TC-SST box which means it shifts gears via paddles or by the TCU. Before you even knock it, try it out. Its simply amazing. I drove it around firebird raceway and the car was flawless even at 110%. if you wanna know more about it do a search but this will be the future of transmissions.

Oh and I would get the 5-spd if I had to choose but thats just personal preference.

BTW the MR 6-spd was a failure. Any real mods and the thing would blow up. 4th gear would also overheat after repeated abuse on the track.

oo shit they do look the same…
I was comparing wrx to sti =P

hey i found this pic on the net. =D
id actually prefer this to the 08 sti.

that is to me is subaru, i would pimp this over any other subaru out there

just thought you should know that the actual evo x front end does not look anything like that - the picture you are looking at is a photoshop that someone made ;]

the actual evox looks a ton shittier than that.

I like this one. Is that the JDM front or something? I can totally see how the Japanese design cars. They’ll design the car, and then when they’re done, they throw stuff at it, or drop it from 20ft, and sell it to North America. Can they avoid taking a crap all over a car before selling it to us for a change? Why can’t we get the good stuff too?

You tried it on the track, exactly. Yes it’s faster on the track, but no clutch pedal = no fun on the street, and I will never ever change my mind on that.

By the way, i know it’s a dual clutch automated manual, I know all about these transmission, but to me, it will always be 2 pedals = automatic.

Also, I find they have it backwards, the “faster on the track” transmission is on the model with leather, sunroof, navi and 10 speaker sound system. lol So obviously, it’s a car aimed at street drivers, now everyone knows that these transmissions don’t work well on the street because the computer needs to switch the manual gears for you and it can’t do it smoothly.

Also, this new transmission has to be sent to Mitsubishi Canada everytime something happens, the dealers can’t even check it, let alone fix it. That doesn’t sound very good to me.

Thanks JAMMIN1911 for bringing that up about the evo and how it was photoshoped haha… I USED to be a huge mitsu fan and love the evo 8 and 9 but this whole evo X is gay! its not even powered by the 4g63 anymore… Some all new pos. and apparently not as responsive to mods as the 4g63 is… that pic up there is so redone with the front mount and even the seats lol… The actual evo x seats look like dark vader. lol

as far as the new STi goes… Its a pile and looks like a focus for sure… Reciently Im not seeing Any cars that are rolling off the assembly that I like…

all the cars are separating the driver from truly driving… either like the evo By not even offering a TRUE 6 speed MANUAL… Or making a STi look like a grocery getter…

What I read about the new Impreza’s styling is that it is supposed to appeal more to people who actually have about $40k to blow on a car, not 18-25 year olds who just want one.

I don’t mind the look, but I liked the previous generation the most The new EVO looks decent, but I like the previous styles better as well.

yeah i watched a comparison of 6 or so different evos up against each other… i think by best motoring

the evo x got stomped and the evo 9 cleaned up (obviously, its like the best car ever… )

i like the old school ones a lot more as well

Exactly, I worked at the Subaru booth at the Montreal Auto Show and every middle aged guy was like “holy moly, the new STi looks amazing, it’s so much better then every other model before it!!!” and then they took out their checkbooks and bought one.

All the teenagers were like “yo yo man, its ugly as shit bro, fucking piece of shit, i fucking hate it” and then they took the bus home.

Yeah, I figured as much. To the people saying they look like a focus: How many focuses (wtf is the plural?) do you see on the road every day? How many Imprezas? The company needs to make the monies, and then they can worry about the enthusiasts.

yeah…it’s true…but that is when the car looses it’s character…when it’s designed to fill a market gap…

it’s the sole reason why I hate the porsche cayman and cayanne (however you spell it…reminds me of the pepper)

It’s why i don’t particularly like beemers either…

i mean…i understand they’re great cars…and they’re totally usable…but you can’t help but feel that they’re way over engineered (in some cases that is a good thing) but…you simply don’t connect with it…

which is why i like my 240…

yes…it’s on the low end of all rwd sports cars…yes it has its own shares of problems…yes it’s out of date and not as modern…

but when you look at one…you can’t help but have an emotional attachement to them…it’s like a dog…it’s your friend…

haha…am i crazy??

u r far from crazy!!! i look out my window at it everytime i pass. i couldn’t imagine owning another car. every other car that i have driven, new and old, the 240 is still by my fav. i love my 240, i just wish they would bring it back, make a newaged s13. sorry to all u s14/14.5/15 guys, but i like the look of the s13 better, but wish i had the option’s(motor, tranny, rearend) of your car on mine! hide-away lights make it look slick and sexy.

i find it funny that the STIcus appeals to older guys, yea i wont ever own one, and i can’t afford it, but it still looks like shit wether i can afford it or not. i want something that looks good, and not anything like a ford… but thats just me. u were in montreal, bunch of frenchies of course they would like it!!!

what about when mommy and daddy buy baby son of a bitch a car, what is he gonna choose? the STIcus or the evo??

the evo x was tested on the tsukuba ciruit in japan with numerous professional japanese drivers that included Manabu Orido, and Keiichi Tsuchiya. about 5 cars (2008 Subaru WRX STI, 08 Lancer Evo GSR 6sp paddle shit, 08 Lancer Evo MR 5sp Manual, 06 Lancer Evo MR, and 06WRX STI)competed in a 3 lap race. the 08 STI (driven by Tsuchiya) placed first, the 2006 Lancer MR placed second, the 2008 Lancer MR placed 3rd, the 2006 STi followed in 4th with the 2008 Lancer GSR placing dead last. i watched the video on youtube, and ill try to find the link later on tonight. sorry about the shitty grammar and typing, just typing quickly in class.

I drove both the GSR and MR on and off the track.

The normal mode actually shifts like its an auto so its smooth as butter making it ideal for traffic. Swtich it to S-Sport and thats when you get ultra quick shifts with rev matching. The MR comes with all the options because Mistu is banking that it will be for the commuter whereas the GSR will see more track time and be mod friendly.

The Lancer Ralliart will also come with the twin clutch or the 5spd which should be a huge hit since its got the same engine as the evo just down 50 or so hp but Its priced way less.

Thanks JAMMIN1911 for bringing that up about the evo and how it was photoshoped haha… I USED to be a huge mitsu fan and love the evo 8 and 9 but this whole evo X is gay! its not even powered by the 4g63 anymore… Some all new pos. and apparently not as responsive to mods as the 4g63 is… that pic up there is so redone with the front mount and even the seats lol… The actual evo x seats look like dark vader. lol

Dude you havent driven the cars yet you are convinced these new models are separating driver from the car? Trust me they are just as fun as the old cars, if not funner and you definitely feel connected.

Ofcourse they retired the 4G63, the damn thing was a dinosaur! It wasnt even close to passing todays emission standards and the new 4B11 engine is pretty awesome actually and will be mod friendly. Who told you it wasnt?

Yes its true these cars are built for more of a mainstream buyer but thats because the enthusiast market is tapped out. If you had a product that you wanted to make money on wouldnt you want it to grow? You also have to realize times are changing, emissions are stricter, safety is crucial (The new Evo has 8 air bags!!), the way cars are built is ever evolving. Because of this the cars we are used to seeing arent going to be around. If they ever put out a new Silvia you think it will even resemble what an old silvia drives like? Never.

In two years everyone will be dogging how ugly the new designs are and the current designs will be ‘cool’ and ‘hip’. Remember what every subie owner and forum said about the 07 STI, it looks like an Alfa! its ugly!..now its the benchmark for the STI style.

this years subaru campaign has tried to shed its boy racer persona
and appeal to a more mature audience.

i read that in car and driver…i think
