I was wondering if there was a huge risk to damaging any of my audio equipment, specifically the subs by using them in the coming winter. Is there’s a good possibility that pounding the subs, if they are extremely cold, will break them? This is probably a really stupid question…for that I apologize. :o
yes at the start, let the car warm up…
I should think that if you turn the car on and let the stereo play while it warms up, that friction inside the speaker should warm it up enough to prevent real damage.
Just don’t turn your stereo up too loud - and thank me when you’re 30 and can still hear.
subs will break! it happened to me. I really didnt care though. But the wire from the wire terminals to the sub cone will feel alot of tention and will break like thin pieces of glass. Just dont crank it and you should be ok. IE: no more than past 5 for a good 10min, just to be safe.
just keep the turned down til the car is warm inside and u should be ok, ive gone 4 years on the same ones and never had a problem once. And i drive all winter.
WHHHHAAAAAAAAAAAAT DID YOU SAY KRIS!!!
lol… yea dont turn up the volume right off the batt… give the car a chance to warm up … playing the speakers does help with the volume turned down… --Scott
Don’t forget about condensation. If you park indoors or in a heated garage you will have condensation in the trunk. In high school I had a winter beater Caprice Classic with 2 15’s in the trunk. I parked it in the garage and condesation that built up on the underside of the trunk lid driped onto my subs which later dripped onto the subs and amp. Not good.
pwned!!!
Good warning tho!!
turn it up. it will be louder cuz the air is more dence. I have never herd ot the lead on the sub of just breaking off but the spider to the cone is what you will want to worrie about in cold weather. heating up the car wont make inside your sub box any warmer. Playing the sub for a bit and slowly turning it up will be okay though. I used to play my subs as loud as they would go in winter cuz Id gain like 3db on the RTA. Holla!
Yeah that too. Unless you have a ported box.
I’ve owned the same 2 subs for 3 years and everytime I get into my car I crank them up, even during the winter. I’ve never had a problem…
^^YUP
even with ported box it will still be cold. Go and feel in your box after the car is warm and you will see.
WOW that sounds funny^^^^
You said box hahahaha
thanks for the advise
