Subwoofer porn...

i find this thread hilarious.

RF Punch Power sub is certainly porn for me I will admit.

Although the notion of using a W7 as a “SQ” sub is fundamentally flawed. The W7, although my favorite sub woofer, has far too much moving mass, AND way too much suspension stiffness to ever be a SQ sub.

if you are looking for a real SQ sub, it will NOT have high power handling OR high excursion.

The old power sub does warm the heart for me though. In 1994, it was bomb ass. I hope you didn’t pay much for it though. The power is ALSO not a SQ sub because it has a thicker surround and stronger spider, as well as a heavier cone construction. It is purely a sub meant for SPL.

A standard RF punch sub would be more suitable for a “sq” system but based on this thread neither of you know what a real SQ system sounds like. You both seem to be going for “sounds good to me”. A real SQ system is flat out amazing. there are a few around in the area but are rarely seen or heard.

Real SQ systems compete nationally on the IASCA competition circuit. Anything else is simply a nice stereo.

a few of the SQ people im friends with are switching to these, http://www.incriminatoraudio.com/update/images/products/FL_MEDIUM107.jpg

They say the output it just flatout amazing, and these are seasoned SQ competitors, and one of them is one of the top SQ competitors the past few years

lol. :haha

You can laugh all you want, some of the people I know are world champion’s in iasca semi-pro and pro SQ, and MECA SQ, who are switching out to these subs with great results

Oh yeah? Who?

One of the guys I know who is switching is Andy Jones, 2007 Iasca pro champion, and I think runner up this past year

you are a personal friend of Andy Jones? Interesting.

His install was done in Atlanta GA by Jeff Smith and tuned by Scott Buwalda. He is a serious competitor for sure, although I can be nearly positive that what you would refer to as sub-bass comes from his FRONT mounted midbass’ and his free air subwoofers require a stiff suspension and are crossed over at a nearly infrasonic frequency and are greatly attenuated or simply shut off for any SQ judging.

Most likley they are utilized for everyday listening and for attaining the maximum points for reaching the 130 db minimum in the SQ plus section of judging.

Yes, andy bust’s my balls on a daily basis.

And yes, I know the subwoffer in a system like that is only playing a narrow band of freq’s. I believe he said that sub plays lower and cleaner then any other sub he’s heard, and I trust his ears.

I know a few things, im not one of those kids that will tell you he blew out the hatch with his 2 12’'s flea market set up. I may not know jack about car tuning or mechanics, but the one thing I do know is audio

There are serious competitors in this area. You really need to go to the finals and listen to the best before you can really know how good a car can sound. I listened to the best Mark Eldridge’s 4 runner in 1996 at the finals. Along with many other simply incredible systems.

Things were much more impressive then than now. The entire competition scene has pretty much imploded.

Yeah, in the past few years, ive competed in something like 14 different states, I’ve heard some good cars along the way (granted, I did SPL and then switched to the Bassrace format)

But yeah, SQ died in this area hardcore. SLAP seemed to have a good following, but that came to an end for the most part
