That has nothing to do with the speed /power of the car, it is due to the down force and rubber that it is able to wear. Better / bigger brakes are not going to slow you down any quicker when you aren’t locking up the stock system.
This is an internet engineers favorite topic! :tif:
you dont even necessarily need a fan on the back of your rad in a drag car… comparison not valid.
why are we even talking about this… frig.
this guy makes full use of that power even on a hard lapping day with the best pads, rotors and fluids and he is still sitting out after a dozen laps. i couldnt go 5 hard laps in a row with 11.1" rotors and 4 pistons up front, mind you stock S13 rears. In order to stay on the track for 10 straight laps i had to baby it, brake early, take a slower line. Much of my experience with this issue is second hand through Sasha’s exploits and 300zx brakes all around, which are similar to the Evo’s brakes needed ALOT of help to handle 40+ laps, all out. All other street cars in the series were running 12.5 - 14" plus rotors and bigger calipers. We’re talking lighter cars with less than half the HP still.
we’re not talking about one hard stop here.
upgrades to brakes can include ducting as well and should actually. you’re all still wrong.
No it’s valid. You are going to go much faster at the track than you should ever get on the street. Be it street or track the car is going to stop the same, minus bumps and changes in elevation on the street. Its not like there is a street and track mode braking system of something.
Braking is a function of traction and friction. So long as the weight is the same in the EVO, he should be able to stop that car period without locking it up. Whether or not it fades is another story.
I agree that if it were me for safety reasons, I would want to upgrade somehow. HOWEVER, its not necessary and the reasons you are noting here really aren’t valid.
Example, the AMS EVO uses a smaller brake package, makes more power and stops the car. Granted this isn’t on the street, but who is doing 160 on the street repeatedly?
I think walter said it best, you aren’t going to slow down any faster on larger brakes if you aren’t already locking up the stock system. The only thing I would ever be worried about is IF i had stickier tires, brake fade. Then I would address the problem.
You guys have way too much time to play know it all about random cars on the internet. That said, did you ever stop to think that this is the first stage in many upgrades about to happen to the car, and that just maybe, full race doesn’t typically deals with suspension setups, so he’s going somewhere else…
I thought it was pretty clear that the guy just wanted something for messing around on the street with a lot of power… it’s not setup for any kind of competition.
I see drag too… With the money spent on this car, there would probably be a few more obvious body/suspension mods screaming that its a TA car and not just for a straight line. Not to mention, who the f needs an 800hp TA car lol?
awesome motor, i think it would really suck as a dd though. looks like absolutely no boost below about 5k. I think i would much rather have a motor that spools up at about 3k and makes 600 hp.
