Supercar Scam in the UAE

Well, it’s only a scam if you believe excepting personal checks as payment is a good idea:

Police in Dubai have been trying to locate a man who scams supercar owners, purchasing their vehicle with a fake cheque, before driving away in their prized automobile.

The criminal most recently scammed an Egyptian Porsche Cayenne owner, who had his 2011 Porsche listed on a website for 200,000 AED (approx £35,000). The seller was approached by a buyer to view the vehicle, who arrived in a Ferrari 458. Suspecting that the interesting buyer was legitimate, the seller agreed to sell the car, with the buyer paying with a cheque.

You guessed it, the cheque bounced, and by this point, the buyer was off with the sellers Cayenne. The seller was shocked even further when he found his Porsche up for sale again on the same website! When he went to report the crime to the authorities, Dubai police had received five further reports of the same person scamming other members of the public selling supercars.

Stupidity crosses all borders. Probably would’ve accepted a Harry Dunn IOU.

I don’t think it would be too hard to catch this guy. Put up like 30 fake cars for sale, he’ll bite on one of them and meet him there with one of the old sellers to identify him.
