I am happy to see this. With how our civil rights seem to be getting trampled on lately this is a win for the people.
I had to laugh when I saw the Howard says this won’t stop him from using his device and he won’t change the way they do things.
That is an entirely separate concept…That is interception of traffic and not searching the actual device.

Is the core of it
Or when they first interviewed him about what it could do, he said “I don’t really know how it works or what it can do”. Really?
Unanimous decision too. That’s really rare.
I’m assuming there will be a solid case that gets pushed to the supreme court of the use of stingray/whatever fake cell tower tech they use.
My guess would be similar requirement to have a search warrant to do so however it can arbitrarily collect information on other people within range so who knows.
In the end it’s not really some tech local police departments need to have
Example case - http://online.wsj.com/articles/suspects-in-florida-tracked-by-cellphone-stingray-tool-1403302294
More stingray info from EFF - https://www.eff.org/deeplinks/2012/10/stingrays-biggest-unknown-technological-threat-cell-phone-privacy
I cant wait to hear what is identified as an unusual circumstance so they don’t need a warrant.
^ This. Hopefully a cell traffic snooping case finds it’s way to the supreme court soon as well.
Nudes?
Speaking of other cases I would love to see a challenge to the use of those automatic plate readers.
I realize its cuts down on insurance/inspection issues however there is massive tracking potential.
Here is the next wave of spying technology that people are fearful of: http://www.dailytech.com/Chicago+Installs+Big+Data+Sensors+to+Watch+Citizens+Promises+Privacy/article36098.htm
Packed with sensors, these curling constructs will measure a variety of environmental factors including air quality, heat, precipitation, and wind. They will also contain digital listening and imaging equipment
I have no problem with those IF they used as they claim with no data stored. That could easily be handled without the delay of a supreme court case though by simply legislating it to be a crime to store the data.
Why do you think they coined the term “National Security”? It gives them an excuse to do pretty much anything. Want to be " detained" at an unknown location for a few years without a real reason?
I have no problem with those plate readers due to the fact that they aren’t collecting information that isn’t already in the DMV system.
Say that after they nab you for an overdue inspection and hit you with a $55 fine and then the $55 local surcharge.
Actually we all will start getting letters from the State for overdue inspections. It will say that your registration will be suspended if you don’t take care of it. Got one.
Well, we don’t need a machine to see that an inspection is overdue…
^Yeah, don’t have an overdue inspection?
That’s like saying I don’t like surveillance cameras because they snoop on me shoplifting.
Seeing as I get my car inspected before the sticker expires I’m not too worried. I worried about ending up like my brother in law, who’s car got totaled by some uninsured piece of shit. Plate readers work amazing well at getting those kind of people off the road.
No doubt.
