Now I know that name may sound weird/fake but its real. I own the worlds Only SVT Cobra Mercury Meteor. It has tons of mods, taken 4-5 years of hard work to get to where it is today and still more to go. It has an SVT Cobra IRS, SVT Cobra Brake system (including hydroboost), SVT Cobra Seats (yes the 6 way drivers seat works), It has A fatman fabrication strut front end (we can ajust the camber on it), it has a stock 302 (for now t3/t4 hybrid stage III turbo later) with custom headers to clear the rack and pinion steering, it has an aod transmission, It has a lowcar throttle system in it, 650 double pumper, Custom apolstered rear seats, It has ajustable shocks in the rear, and we can ajust the ride hight on all 4 corners. We are able to ajust the brake pressure, it has power steering and power brakes (which is a long story of how we got it to work), A restored gas tank, It has an electric fuel pump (which we had to re route recently), It has a B&M Mega shifter, and thats basically all the major parts on the car as of now. I know I forgot some but the pictures can do the rest. As of this year we put the car in black primer. I will post more pics later but they are on my cardomain page http://www.cardomain.com/ride/3111858/
We may do that if we get the money because we notched the strut towers but the t3/t4 is just such a good deal. Its 150 bucks on ebay does 32psi at max. We already talked to a guy whose got a carburated turbocharged stang on the stock block. He is doing around 600hp with just the turbo head and a cam. Its cheaper for sure, plus i dont have to worry about tons of wiring problems. I may eventually get one of the early 90s SVT 302s but thats in the future. We hope for the car to run low 11s when the turbocharger is done. We already got an IRS Brace for it so it won’t brake.
you’ll definitely need that IRS brace! lol, also i’d look into making sure the rear diff mount bolts are the 14mm instead of the 12. I hear it helps a lot.
I will, in fact, as of now we are having to redo part of the power steering system. We are running it through a cooler and air was getting in so we are getting a 90 degree step bend for it. My dad has a 62 Meteor as well which I’ve helped him work on for ages now. Hes got the fuel injected 5.0 liter in his though. Yeah it will be changing a lot before winter though. We have to get some other stuff done on it like a strut tower brace is needed (likely will be adjustable) and then that’s the major stuff for the year. Next year is cosmetics though. If you look on page 58 of this months Hot Rod Magazine my car is on that page.
Thats very good to hear since I’m going to beat on the car often at the track which should be fun. We may have the 14mm but im not sure. We got the IRS from a guy who wanted to put a straight axle in his cobra so it has about 2500 miles on it in total.
Sweet idea and nice parts… Minus the $150 ebay turbo. You got top dollar parts everywhere, but the turbo? I guess to get it running its all good, but a knock off $150 turbo wont last very long at 32psi! I am loving the idea and the suspension and everything.
I am lookin in the cardomain now… but to save me some time at work… are you the guy with the ghost flamed blown Marauder? or what ever it is exactly, my uncle might know you.
Exactly it wont be close to 32psi it will be 12psi. I found out about it from hot rod magazine where a guy was using two of them to run 10s. They are actually off of tractors from what I’ve heard, and another guy is making over 1000hp with two of them on a ls series motor. As for the ghost flame marauder with the blower that is pro rodder but its blue now. We have the 22 marauder (yes its a prototype) and we have one of the 328 blue marauders.
It was insane, we were right behind two ford/mercury concept cars and behind us was a factory lightweight 61 galaxy race car with open headers, to further that we started next to a real thunderbolt (Phill Bonners) and behind his was another thunderbolt clone. The track was amazing though and it was fun going through the banking on the track> In the end we overheated because they were taking individual pics of everyones car so we were at around 230 degrees but we just put a bigger fan on after that to cool it down. As for the 5.4 liter deal likely not because the 5.0 liter is lighter so that works better for me. The car as of now is in the 3400-3500lb range which isnt bad for a pillarless car.
Hey sweet car and good job but I agree that putting a cheap turbo on is no good. Try for a stock Nissan T28 or GT28R Disco Potato or Turbonetics T3/T4 or comething that has dependability built into it.
Tip: Dont do ceramic wheeled turbos lol The instant spool is awesome but the lifetime is brief
