Tacho, Steering Hub & Steering Wheel install

Hi everyone,

Just got back from work picked up a pack of splice clips, and extra wire for my tach install, im going out right now to get started on it.

I will also be trying to get the Hub adapter and steering wheel fitted on the B13, as well.

If anyone has any information please go ahead write up, prefferably through experiance, it looks like i might be up late night trying to install all three parts because the Tach thing is first time for me, but i got instructions online to put the tach without going through the fire wall to the coil, which i don’t want to do, i prefer the easy setup. So i will be using the ECU.

I hope i don’t screw up…

I will be checking back here every hour or so if i hit any problems. Every where i checked close by can’t install the tach till next week, i can’t take that chance i have 5 days to return it if it dosen’t work, bought it online.

okay cheers:#

So how did the install go? The hub adapter and steeering wheel install should be no problem.

As for the tach install, is it an aftermarket tach? My friend installed an Autometer tach into his car with no problems b/c the wire for the tach was just sitting there behind the dash waiting for something to plug into.

Hey, all three parts are installed the hub, steering wheel, and tach, looks sickkkk, i’ll upload the pics tonight.

Some interior shots after the steering wheel install.

The steering wheel is off ebay. I decided not to buy a spoon steering wheel from jhpusa, after all its only a steering wheel. I had the MOMO Hub sitting around, so i bought a cheap wheel off ebay, was getting sick of the original steering wheel, to much play and thin and large diameter dynamics.

I was expecting something cheap quality wise from ebay, but surprisingly this leather steering wheel is nice plus has a horn.

The install was quite simple except had to get one mod done. The end of the hub was cutting off everytime the wheel was turned, and was very stiff, for $20, i got a custom, spacer made and the thing was sweet after wards. The play has gone, though there is some left. However, not enough to fix yet. The other problem was the ground horn wire, took the original two horn wires, plugs right off, cut one wire off the original, and used it as the ground wire with the momo, as the momo already has its own horn wire. The hard part was trying to figire out how to, and where to put the ground wire, as the steering wheel screws were 2mm too wide for the ground wire face, so i tried different spots in the hub over few days, but every time i came back from work, and the car had been sitting in the heat over a period of time, the horn would not work.

Finally figured out a solution, took out all six screws for the steering wheel centre, placed the ground wire face on one of the hub 6 holes, placed electric tape on it, screwed in 5 of the screws, and just pushed the 6th one in slowly and with a little bit of strenght the screw widened the ground wire face and snugly fitted through, and the horn works perfect now. It was tedious, but worked.:R

And yes its a very clean job. I always do the cleanest and most reliable jobs,i have a sickness, very hygeinic and a perfectionist, if i can’t do it my self i get it professionally installed, i was really tired, so i got the tach installed for only $40!!!, including extra wires, soldering and splices all free.

This guy i know will hook anyone up with anything, you name it they do it or know someone who does it, labour costs are very resonable!!!.

They work on minivans to C6 corvettes. So if you need something done, let me know. They have good experiance, and have worked on many different kinds of cars.

Well here it is the cockpit is finished, for now.
