She actually moved out of disney bookings. call AAA and see. Like I said, we caught the deal on TV when they were offering the dining package for free. all we basically paid for was tickets and hotel.
I get the whole renting before buying idea, it makes perfect sense. In all reality, it’s not very friendly on the wallet, but some don’t mind that to find out if they like it. Back when Ryan Fitzpatrick was still the QB for the Bills, Fred Jackson sent him my way because Fred bought 2 from me. Ryan had my cell phone number and would call me at least once a week. He wanted to rent a Class C RV, same as you, to drive down to Arizona in the offseason with his kids. He wanted to fly back though, which usually doesn’t work unless its Camping World, because they have locations everywhere.
Anyways, he kept calling me. To the point that it was super annoying. One day he called and I had enough. I told him that he knew I didn’t rent and that he had just signed his huge contract, just buy one and sell it when he was done with it. If he wasn’t going to buy one, I told him to lose my number. 1 week later he bought a brand new one from me with bunks for his kids. Called me a few days after being on the road telling me how excited he was that he did it and that one of kids rolled off the top bunk, but it wasn’t a big deal, it really sounded like they were having a blast.
Jayco is the best brand, hands down. It’s also pricey. If you buy one, it has to have the front nose cap. Don’t get one with exposed seams, they never held up.
A good used deal would be a Forest River Sunseeker 2900. These sold new for about $60k. no slide outs, full queen bed in the back and a full queen bunk up top. I think it measured like 31’ bumper to bumper.
If you want someone to look for you, I still maintain contacts at various RV places locally, just let me know.
Maybe you should start a 2 tone car owners forum. Might find more response to your new vehicle purchase threads then.
Don’t feel too bad, the guy with everything pinstriped didn’t stick around either.
Should have bought a Ford…lol jk
It leans more toward this generation of users has children now. I know I use to spend 80% of my extra money on my cars, motorcycles, etc. Now, I know it’s a little sad to say, but I would rather “mod” my house and or spend money on family fun than on vehicles. Now I know I just bought a Raptor, but I’m home office and we were a one-car family for 2.5 years with 2 kids (Tbird SC still around for the summer time). But knew I wanted to pay cash for most of my truck.
Sell all 4 vehicles and go on the ULTRA Disney experience :tspry:
I get that this is apples/oranges, but HOLY HELL. In the past 2 years I’ve taken about 2 month’s worth of vacations and spent less than that.
No I agree, even with 2 kids we have gone on numerous awesome vacations in the past 2 years and not spent close to that.
Disney is great and all, but once those 6-7 days are over the memories do eventually fade but that $7k does not get “magically” deposited back from the Magical Kingdom.
That’s the main reason we are looking into an RV, I want to travel all around the US while my kids are young (pre-teen) and then start going overseas when they are old enough.
Actually realistically in the past 2 years I’ve probably taken about 4.5 months of vacation
Yeah…but not EVERYBODY wants to push their kids off a cliff.
Haha. I know my vacation ideas aren’t the norm, I was just surprised at the cost.
I don’t know how you do that?
Just looking at work travel over the past year for me to spend a week in any decently large city its $1500-2000 easy between flights, food, hotel, and car.
You can easily stay on disney and eat for 4k including flights however you can spend more if you want.
And someone mentioned the Adirondacks hell driving and renting a cabin on Lake George this year is going to be close to 2k between rental/food/whatever else we do while there for a week and that is driving there.
Lol, glad you saw the joke there.
While I agree with the cost seeming to be incredibly expensive, I can also see it being justified. I had a former coworker who went to Disney every year. He took kids that he and his wife adopted that had special needs. He mentioned numerous times how Disney really accounts for every detail, including which direction you should stand to get the best photos of the parade. Small stuff like that.
I’ve never been to Disney or even Florida for that matter so I’m going on his word.
It is entertaining watching a car forum where people have thrown away thousands modding Hondas and whatever else complain about the cost of a vacation with your family.
I mentioned it, but it was in the form of taking your camper there. Sites run anywhere from $75-300 a night and you bring your own food and drinks with you.
Minus the fact you’re buying a 100k camper + insurance + gas
100k lol more like 15k for a trailer, which is what I started out saying. Most people have a 1/2 ton pickup that they could tow with. Say you own it for 10 years and then it’s worthless. That’s $1,500 a year it costs to own it. Hell, say $2k a year after maintenance since you get a warranty for the first 2 years.
Insurance is $500 a year, on the very high side. Gas? You’re going to spend that either way, it won’t cost that much more to tow a trailer up there.
What would you guys think is the best age to take a kid to Disney? Have a 6 yr old son and the idea has come up a few times in the last yr. He’s over 48" tall so would be fine to go on the rides but just having turned 6 a few weeks ago might be a little scary.
Thoughts?
My reasoning is very simple. You can spend 4k in one year to go to Disney or you can spend 4k in one year to go on 5 camping trips to different places. It’s not like you buy a camper for $15k and you just use it for that one year.
Most people have a half-ton truck? That’s a bold statement.
So 18k minus gas and food costs plus owning something to pull it.
When a family of 3-4 can goto Disney for 3-4k and still go on other vacations but instead now they’re stuck going to whatever is within driving distance.
Sounds awesome
